I’m on 35’s and 4.10s and to be honest I noticed very little impact to performance and still get into 8th.

I’ll probably do 5.13 for my 35s.

Gain some low end and still only turn about 2,400 rpm at 70mph.

It revs a little higher than it needs to and fuel economy is probably suffering. This is why I recommend 4.56s for 35s unless you are towing heavy or travel with 4 people and a heavily loaded roof rack.
Ah gotcha. Do you think a steel front bumper and a full size spare and wheel would warrant enough weight for 4:88?I was looking at 4:56’s first, then read that 4:88’s for 35’s were better ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

im In Michigan and still get 8th at 3:73’s on 35’s, but for me on the freeway 65mph is the sweet spot. The truck just feels sluggish going any faster

You need gears for 35's for sure and 33's probably to be correct as your truck came with 3.73's? You need to decide if the juice is worth the squeeze.........We cant decide that for you.

If you are not towing heavy and mainly operate in flat land, 4.10's for 33's, 4.56 for 35's, and 4.88's for 37's are the general rule.

You are adding weight and rolling mass is worse than static in terms of slowing performance. Most of the aftermarket wheels are HEAVY! That said, you will never get "Stock" performance from a gear swap, but your transmission will be able to keep you in the right gear and engine can stay in power band longer for better performance.
Agreeing with your thoughts - with this tossed in -

Stock Rubicon A/T tires are 32.8" (called "33s") I ran them on my Overland for several months. Didn't notice much difference but then the Overland "32s" are really 32.2" so there was only .6" difference in full diameter.
Mine really handled about the same with the Rubicon tires on it, lost a bit of mpg - but that was more due to them being A/T tires vs. HT tires.

I'm now running 275/65R18.

do you have any pictures of your JT with those tires?? Do you have a lift? I’m looking to do the Mopar 2” lift, or Clayton 2.5” but I’m wondering how goofy it’ll look with 32’s.

255/75/17 (32in) with a 2in spacer lift

I don’t think its goofy looking personally. Just a bit more wheel well, which is fine as far as im concerned since I tow my TT for a trip every month.

plus ill take a little “goofy” look. Now with the 255/75/17s ive gotten all my performance back. Acceleration, handling, road feel on long trips. All back to stock. I live in 8th on the highway and average 21-22mpg most of the time.

for comparison the bottom pic is stock 245/75/17 with the 2in lift.

I have Rubicon springs under the front - that raised it 1", the bumper and winch dropped it .5" so I put spacers in and raised it back up .75"
So I guess I have 1.25" lift.

That’s sort of what I’m running - rubi shocks and coils, with 1.5” spacer up front and 3/4 spacer in the back. I have a rubi steel bumper take off sitting in my basement that I’m waiting to install...debating on adding any more weight to my vehicle, until I decide if I’m regearing or going back down to 32/33’s..I am just so in love with these tires/wheel combo, it’ll be sad to see them go. Debating just keeping the wheels and putting 32’s or 33’s on them.

This is the same question I have. Ive got a 3.5" lift, stock 33`s and 3.73 w/ gas v6 automatic.

Im planning to go to 35`s and have been planning to go 4.56, but now Im wondering about 4.88 - I mean, between the bumpers, sliders, roll bar, winch, diff skids, front skid.. Ive got ~400 pounds of steel bolted onto this thing easily. Im not towing a toy hauler or RV, but I will be towing a jon boat or a harley from time to time, or hauling loads of rock / dirt in the bed.

Decisions, decisions...

I feel wind drag is a bigger factor than weight.

Trailers with frontal area and roof racks are a killer. I can't even coast at the same speed down a 6% grade while towing my small RV without throttle input due to wind drag. My Peterbilt with a YJ on the deck towing my 37' 5th wheel always gained speed and it had much more frontal area.

The jump from 4.56 to 4.88 is only 5%,....about 100rpm, so it's not the end of the world if you gear lower. Also, aren't you living up in hill country at higher elevation?

I went with 5.13 and absolutely love it. plus your already geared to take extra weight of 37's RTT, Rack, whatever. Im getting about 17.5 miles a gallon combined.
