I have conditioned myself to disable the start/stop every time I fire up the beast - it's really not that much of a hassle to punch one more button on the dash...

Agreed. Can't see spending hundreds to avoid pushing a button. The button is just inches from the Start button.

Plus I am wanting to avoid any thing that the dealer can use to avoid warranty claims. When I took delivery it was explained twice that the truck was a computer and it would be scanned at every service. I for one will not muck with the electronics while in warranty.

Piggy back devices, like the Tazer, don't leave residual data in the ECU that can be picked up by the dealer.

This seems to be one of those things some people are okay with, but other people loathe. My wife's BMW does it so I already understood the concept. My son says he can't stand it turning off at stops, but it didn't take me long to get used to it. It never was annoying to me so I've never even used the disable button, but at first it did feel weird. I actually like it now - it's remarkable how it's ready to go from the time my foot leaves the brake pedal to the time it hits the gas. The only thing I think is weird about it now is oftentimes when I park it, it turns itself off, then when I shift into park it starts up again, just for me to have to turn it off again. All things considered, I'm still good with it - and maybe it saves enough gas to buy me a cup of coffee once in a while.

I'm with the push the button crowd. I drove a Chevy Duramaxipad for years, if you wanted to stop you had to use the exhaust brake. Turn the key, push button. Got so a custom to it I do it in every vehicle or reach for it anyway.

You can get a Tazer OBD Dongle that lets you do a lot - disabling Auto SS is one of many options. (I also enjoy the option to turn on the rear camera with the turn signal). They're not cheap, but if you like to modify your Jeep, it offers tons of aftermarket options.

That being said, I leave Auto SS enabled, it doesn't bother me. After a day you get used to it, and it really does save gas.

One tip- if you're at an intersection where you may need to go NOW, just pump the brake a little. Letting off the brake starts the engine, and if you pump a couple times, the Auto-Stop won't engage again.

I use the disable switch depending on my route. The work route... I know the lights and actually appreciate sitting at the long lights with the engine off. The mornings are cool. During the day it almost never shuts off due to the heat. I also have learned to recognize signs that it will or will not shut off. I am averaging 20 mpg around town. This feature, the ACC mode settings, and the mpg screen are almost a game now.

I have the OBD JScan app and an OBD LINK MX+ adapter and used that to disable ESS. Been working fine for a couple of months and I think it makes the ESS circuit ignore one of the hood switches causing it to never enable itself.
