Cooling System Failure - Dave's Auto Center Video

Dave's Auto dropped a video of a JL EcoDiesel coming in with oil in the cooling system. It appeared to either be caused by an oil cooler failure or a blown head gasket. Impossible to tell which one. Anybody know if cooling system failures are common on the Third Gens?

Might be good to proactively replace the oil cooler nearing 100k miles as these seem to be a weak point with thermal stress.

That wasn't pretty, but it also seems like the issues were further made worst by the owner continuing to use the vehicle either after the first break down or after the poor repair. After 1st said repair, goo would likely reappear in the coolant tank in short order if it was not cleaned well, at that point stop driving and tow back to dealer to do the job over.

head gaskets don't fail and cylinders don't score unless that motor was cooked hard, and there would be lots of warning through the gauges if that was happening and ignored. The whole issue with over filling also baffels me, couldn't the owner pull the dip stick and check the level themselfs?
