I enjoy Mr. Cameron's columns. I bought my first motorcycle when I was a poor 18 year old student to save money and fell in love with the mechanical world.
That era of bikes. There were some great writers during that time.

D@mmit... now I have yet another place to spend my money. That Hellcat hood is AWESOME!

We want heat to rise out at a stop and be "drawn" out or atleast let the fans push it out at speed. That hood will just ram air into the cowl area where it is hottest. At slow speed the engine cooling fans wont really push anything "out" of the vents.

On the poison spyder louvers when the cooling fan is on its like a 140 degree heater blowing out of the vents like a hair dryer. Its clearly letting alot of heat out.

After installing the same louvers on my JK i'm all too familiar with how scary it can be throughout the whole process LOL. I used a dewalt angle grinder with a cutting wheel and it cut through the hood like butter, although it sent sparks/future microrust all over the place...might give an oscillating saw a try on this one as you suggested. Gracias.
Except this time your cutting aluminum and aluminum with a cut off wheel is not fun. Thats why i tried to use the jigsaw my cutoff wheel was making a mess of things.

Id use an oscillating saw next time.

Yeah, I wasn't so worried about the function (even though that's most of the thread's topic) I just thought it looked cool ?. In all honesty, I won't buy one... eventually I'd love to do a 6.4 install and then upgrade the hood to the hydroglide system.

There is a whole thread about the heat dissipation experiments with the gladiator Eco Diesel. Guys ran tests with hood removed, no fenders, bumper off, none made a significant difference in oil temps. You need a larger radiator, or ideally, an aux oil cooler, but we are stuck with no space to mount said components. There is no easy answer to this, or else it would have already been done. Using a tazer to force the cooling fan to 100% before a long towing climb helps, but still only delays the inevitable derate.

oil cooling or no oil cooling, I rather not have all that heat build up under my hood, turning all of the plastic bits in there to peanut butter brittle.

a hood vent is not a path for engine cooling but can be used for engine bay cooling. There are other things under that make heat too (power steering pump for instance).

Something like that would pressurize the engine compartment. This would decrease the pressure differential between the front and back of the radiator. This would decrease flow through the radiator.

The ram air intake on the 392 goes directly to the intake via a snorkel. It didn't just dump the air into the engine compartment.

If you want to increase radiator efficiency and improve cooling, you want a vent that will EXTRACT air from the engine compartment. This will lower the pressure and increase the pressure differential between the front and back of the radiator.

Based on some eyeball engineering, a functional set of Rubicon vents might work. But I don't know. Someone must have done a CFD analysis of a Wrangler. That would be interesting to see.
Would removal of the Heat shield pad during summer help cool the motor.?
I actually been thinking of removing mine on the 3.6l just because its old and all crapped up with salt stains etc.. I have never understood why these jeeps come with this hood blanket other than to protect the paint. They warm up sooo freaking fast .
