Well Friday did not turn out how I expected. I had previously spoken with the service manager at my local dealership. I sent him pics of the metal in the CP4 when I removed the metering valve on top. He said they had a new HPFP in stock and they will replace it under warranty. Finding metal in the filter and now in the CP4 was not good.
So I had the Jeep to the dealership at 7:00am. The service manager was not in so another person took my jeep in. They asked what was to be done. I told them that the CP4 was scheduled to be replaced. He said that is impossible because Chrysler does not have any parts. I said the service manager has the pump in hand and speak with him when he gets in. If not, I have a replacement pump in the back seat that I purchased in case there were no parts available.
11:30am. I called to see the progress. Everyone in the service department is in a training meeting. They will call me when they get out.
3:00pm. I called again. The service manager is out to lunch. The other person that took my information was on another call. He will call you back.
3:30pm. The service manager called me and said that the technician did not find enough metal to warrant replacing the pump. The engine runs fine and is not showing any fault codes. I asked if he personally looked, he said no that he was busy in meetings all day. He said there was nothing the dealership could do until the Jeep throws codes or stops running. I told him I was coming to pick up my truck. I printed off a photo of the metal I found when removing the metering valve and to give it to the tech that did not find enough metal! And explained that I used a magnet to collect all the metal I could from inside the pump. The trip to the dealership was 11 miles so I guess it did not grind enough for them.
3:40pm. The person that took my jeep in said it was ready and the technician said there was nothing wrong with my CP4. But since I already purchased, from Mopar Parts, and had the new HPFP on the back seat of my Gladiator, they could install it for me for $480.
I asked if it could still be done today? He said "Sorry, but we don't have time and we can schedule you in for an appointment after the beginning of the year".
So I have decided to just drive the Jeep until it fails and they have to replace the entire HPF system. I cannot believe that Chrysler has this mindset. Any metal in the fuel system is BAD.
I am in communication with Jeep wave, have a ticket #, and they know it was at the dealership to have the pump replaced.
I am sure Monday with Jeep wave will be interesting.
The saga continues.
