Well Friday did not turn out how I expected. I had previously spoken with the service manager at my local dealership. I sent him pics of the metal in the CP4 when I removed the metering valve on top. He said they had a new HPFP in stock and they will replace it under warranty. Finding metal in the filter and now in the CP4 was not good.

So I had the Jeep to the dealership at 7:00am. The service manager was not in so another person took my jeep in. They asked what was to be done. I told them that the CP4 was scheduled to be replaced. He said that is impossible because Chrysler does not have any parts. I said the service manager has the pump in hand and speak with him when he gets in. If not, I have a replacement pump in the back seat that I purchased in case there were no parts available.

11:30am. I called to see the progress. Everyone in the service department is in a training meeting. They will call me when they get out.

3:00pm. I called again. The service manager is out to lunch. The other person that took my information was on another call. He will call you back.

3:30pm. The service manager called me and said that the technician did not find enough metal to warrant replacing the pump. The engine runs fine and is not showing any fault codes. I asked if he personally looked, he said no that he was busy in meetings all day. He said there was nothing the dealership could do until the Jeep throws codes or stops running. I told him I was coming to pick up my truck. I printed off a photo of the metal I found when removing the metering valve and to give it to the tech that did not find enough metal! And explained that I used a magnet to collect all the metal I could from inside the pump. The trip to the dealership was 11 miles so I guess it did not grind enough for them.

3:40pm. The person that took my jeep in said it was ready and the technician said there was nothing wrong with my CP4. But since I already purchased, from Mopar Parts, and had the new HPFP on the back seat of my Gladiator, they could install it for me for $480.

I asked if it could still be done today? He said "Sorry, but we don't have time and we can schedule you in for an appointment after the beginning of the year".

So I have decided to just drive the Jeep until it fails and they have to replace the entire HPF system. I cannot believe that Chrysler has this mindset. Any metal in the fuel system is BAD.

I am in communication with Jeep wave, have a ticket #, and they know it was at the dealership to have the pump replaced.

I am sure Monday with Jeep wave will be interesting.

The saga continues.

Honestly I am not surprised at all. The customer service at these dealers is some of the worst I have ever experienced. This is a big reason I am selling or trading this truck. When the pump fails the trucks going to be out of commission for weeks. I don't trust the dealer to do the right thing. Its unfortunate because I really like this truck but the experience with dealer has been a headache every time something comes up.

I personally would want to it fail. You already had metal in your system causing accelerated wear/damage to injectors. Having them replace the pump before catastrophic failure isn't going to fix that. Best case is your injectors go out and they pick up the tab, worst case they make it just past warranty and you are on the hook. I would now be worried about the latter.

warranty doesn't matter much now on the CP4, they have a standing recall out, even though they have no solution yet. That's like a legal warranty....

Yes on the pump, not your injectors. If he replaces the pump and then later has a recall done without ever having an actual pump failure it doesn't negate the fact his injectors already ate some metal. If he has injector problems after 100K miles he's going to have a tough time getting them to cover that under warranty. They only replace the injectors and fuel lines once the pump goes kaboom.

Given this saga I'm not sure if going from No Service on your syncro to Stellantis Service on the Gladiator was actually an upgrade. At least you have a reliable transmission now though!

Probably said it already. But mine failed at 4581 miles. Literally boom side of road won't start. I now have 28k and use Hot Shots secret every tank. No issues. But I am in the recall que and will take a new pump when they are in stock.
Really nothing to worry about. It just came to a rolling stop. Nothing locked up. Granted I wasn't going down the highway. I was in a neighborhood.

I hope someone from engineering or a dealership can chime in on why some have the recall and some don't, seeing as they don't have a solution yet, those of us without the recall listed must have a eligible faulty pump.

My Gladiator's build date falls into the recall time frame and I have not received a recall and the NHTSA website shows no recalls?

Just spit balling on this.
Must be a batch of engines with the newer CP4 fuel pump. That was installed in that time frame. That's why maybe for some not getting any recall notices.

I thought we already ascertained that they didn't have a updated pump ? Wasn't the v3 the move?

From reading everything about the issue. No one knows if the replacement will be a CP3 or an up-dated CP4.
