Took a 140mile round trip yesterday in the JTRD yesterday and nothing happened. No de-rating, no catastrophic oil leaks, no fuel pump implosions. Nothing But tons of torque. For reference, 2021 rubicon on 35s with roughly 18k on the clock.

(sorry, I don’t mean to make light of those that are having issues, but need to speak up for all of us who aren’t.)

28K miles on my 2021 without an issue. Nothing but great mileage and torque.

I love my diesel but this thread is funny. Reminds me of a forum thread I read about the new Defender and owners being excited because they had 10,000 miles and went a whole year without any issues. Duh, it's a new vehicle, it should do a lot more than that with no problems! A new Kia Sorento should do 200K if you take care of it... I think we should all be raising our expectations a bit.

I have a Ram Ecodiesel (Gen 1, or 2, depending on how you count). Do I get a say? I had zero problems until the emissions flash. I loved it! Then I had cold engine turbo lag that I was given $3,000 to put up with. So life was good. I didn't have a real problem until ~125,000 miles when the intake manifold sooted up. That was replaced under warranty. I would've ordered a JTRD if the tow rating was better, in spite of diesel fuel running $1 more per gallon. I'm expecting that to correct itself once Putin loses his war in Ukraine.
?? Ukrainian/Russian war has very little to do with fuel prices….. search around for Susans discussions with opec….. our politicians probably aren’t helping our case…….. at all….. but this isn’t a Ukraine/Russia deal ?

Oh yeah? What was his comments/experience?
First thing was the dead throttle pedal in comparison, but liked the electric motor type smooth flat torque curve. He was a little tripped out by my 392 steering wheel too.

He originally wanted to buy a diesel, but he bought a slightly used gas truck during the covid frenzy with a ton of accessories on it that made it a turn key solution at the right price.

The main thing he was driving it for was to see if he wanted a set of E-Clik shocks for his truck.

I just made the swap to 4.10's. I had 27K miles on 37's w/ 3.73s and loved it overall under all conditions.

Then last year we bought a little larger and taller travel trailer that increased wind resistance and sometimes I couldn't hold 6th into a headwind while loaded down. I ran the numbers and knew the 4.10's was lower than I wanted to go requiring me to tow in an OD gear, but 4.10's combined with the jump up to 38's would kind of split the difference.

We travel a LOT of miles off road and knew the 38's would roll over the terrain with less feedback into the chassis as a side benefit, however that's really offset by cost and availability? Nitto makes the only 38x12.50R17 and they are always on backorder plus about $100ea more than most 37's. I now have 6 wheels (Method also discontinued my super light wheels)with 5 Nittos mounted up so I always have a spare to install should we have a catastrophic failure and can't get another for a bit.

At the start of the conflict prices spiked dramatically as a direct result of the market disruption the war caused, coupled by western boycotts of Russian crude. Today there are more factors but the Russian oil boycott still is not helping. My comment was really referring to the difference in price between diesel and gas. At the wars start the delta between diesel and gas jumped from 10-20 cents to $1 or more. The delta cost has never been that large in all the years I have bought diesel. News agencies were reporting that the Russian crude was especially good for diesel and home heating fuel and that was a prime reason for increase in the delta cost. I'm certain there are more factors in fuel and gasoline costs, but that report is what I was going on

1st off , thanks for the quick and in depth reply.

I went straight to 35x12.5x17 nitto trail Grappler M/T since that's the biggest I could go without a lift and gears.

Just now getting to 1k miles and really checked rpm and shift with the Falken 33s and after the switch.

I used jscan to reset speedo for tire change

Lost 2 to 3 mpgs and don't hold 8th as earlier with the 35s

This calculator says I now have an effective GR of 3.55 and need a 3.99GR to get back to the stock torque curve. A 4.10 now would be perfect with a little more holeshot and be just shy of the 4.22 I would need with 37s.

https://tiresize.com/gear-ratio-calculator/

I had to go from the oem 4.10 to 5.29 when I went to true 36 tsl swampers on my 85 4runner.

We have the same trucks, do you have a build thread with pics, be nice to see what mine might look like with youruprising?
