Well, I bought the second filter offered from rockauto this time around. $1 more than the economy listed one. 25$ plus shipping. PO99571EX

I just changed my oil (first change outside of the free ones) and alas, bought a filter from Amazon. Shortly after installing I got a low oil pressure alarm on my Jeep and suspect it is the filter. Is that a symptom of using one of the cheaper filters? Turning off the engine and back on sometimes 'fixes' it (albeit briefly).

Scratch that - didn't take much googling to find this to be a common issue with aftermarket filters :/

STP Extended Life Oil Filter S45027XL

Looks like Autozone is the only one that carries these. They also carry STP air filter and cabin filter.

Maybe we will start seeing more alternate brands start selling these filters too.
Id still love to see a decent conversion. Maybe from Baxter to a good spin on filter or Cummins filter. I agree though if stp can make them then so should bigger players like wix.

STP does not make oil filters. They license the name to AutoZone who then finds other filter makers to make under contract. Champion Labs, Fram, Purolator and a few Chinese and South Korean companies have made STP filters for AutoZone over the years.

One of the guys here bought the Eco D oil cooler housing (@Madtom ?) which has the filter assembly attached so they could explore running cooler lines. Maybe they can give Baxter a call and see about donating their housing to Baxter to make an adapter for us oil burners?

This^^. I'm picking up the $11 version tomorrow and will be comparing it to my oem filters. Might be a good alternative for those who changes their oil often.

Imo, If it measured out the same as the oem, interms of cartridge depth, diameter etc., and utilized the same bypass valve design as the oem than i think it's gtg.

That would be nice if champion or purolator made this one. I ordered one and will post pics when it arrives.

Just keep in mind that no filter maker makes a full catalog of filters, especially when it comes to newer cartridge filters that may still be under patent to one company. All the filter makers will cross pollinate each others product lines with subcontracted filters supplied to each other.

AFAIK, just about all the Eco Diesel oil filters to include the MOPAR ones are coming out of China. So companies like Champion Lab or Purolator are probably sourcing from the same companies as MOPAR but they maybe third shift or alternate fliter media sourced to avoid entanglements with MOPAR and the original design patent holders. Not a bad thing as those companies probably have QC in place to ensure a suitable product gets delivered.

It is really the no name Ebay or Amazon special filters you have to watch out for as they may be totally reversed engineered product that lack any quality check with no corporate entity to back them in case of filter failure and claim.

The $11 STP markings looks very similar to the Pronto.

Overall diameter are the same as oem and bypass valve appears the same design as OEM filter as well. The cap appears high quality fiber resin plastic similar to oem. There're 2 main difference that I can see.

1. STP has 69 pleats vs OEM 65.

2. The inner honeycomb diameter inside the cartridge is smaller on the STP. (Note, photo with a dimple marking on the bypass valve is the OEM filter).

I don't see any issues using this filter.
