The gas has 25hp more. That is not enough to make any significant difference. There is no way 25hp more in the gas yields performance gains such that a gas could easily accelerate up a grade that the diesel can barely maintain speed.
Ok so you have nothing quantitative to add, just opinion. NEXT

Have you driven a diesel JT? We've got a lot of opinion going back and forth, and I wouldn't trust an article like that. Go try one out for yourself--hell, I might even drive down to PA and we can test side-by-side ?

Motortrends article was no different than the video I posted.

Next!
The video only discussed the handling aspect, didn't pull the same hill with same load and a gas or diesel glad. Comparing the speed. So again. Next.

Once again the thread states “Diesel Owners” do you regret your engine choice!! The OP wants diesel owners opinions not the diesel haters opinion so can the haters please stay away? It would be interesting to see how many true diesel owners are unhappy with there choice vs how many gassers are unhappy with their choice.

Please let this thread do what it was intended to do and that was find out if the diesel owners are happy or not.

Tired of all of the bickering from those that don’t even own one telling us how poor of a choice we made by buying the diesel. It’s our money and we must have done something correct or we couldn’t have afforded the diesel to begin with. So stop telling us that we made a poor investment and that the diesel is a piece of junk. I would bet that most of us could care less if we recoup the extra money spent in that we are all happy, that they run great and have the power that the gas motors don’t. It is our money, not yours, so don’t worry about the choices we have made. If it bites us then oh well not your problem or your money!! I will also bet that in 5 years from now those of us that trade up will recoup all of the extra money spent plus.

I love that the guy arguing that the diesel isn’t cost efficient is putting a supercharger on the pentastar. SC is higher price than the ecodiesel upgrade, requires premium fuel, which cost more than diesel and the SC voids the powertrain warranty, so when the pentastar blows from the SC replacement is completely out of pocket. Looks like sound logic to me.

I’m going to play devils advocate here and say my diesel experience with both a ram and wrangler was horrific. My ram was the original eco diesel that had a litany of issues. However my jlu was the more recent revision [2019] and was a total disaster as well. Ran rough, horribly sluggish and had oddball intermittent issues. Granted I believe a lot of the issues stemmed from being in California and the extreme emissions equipment they install on it. At my local dealer back in 2019 they had lots of eco diesel in for blown engines. After that I sold my jlu and got the gladiator. The pentastar is imho underpowered but more reliable in my eyes. I would have near panic attacks with my old jlu whe I was going on a long trip hoping nothing would give and leave me stranded.
All new vehicles are 50 state emissions, so nothing CA specific on your diesels.

My only worry about the EcoDiesel is that my brother-in-law has a 2015 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel and it blew the turbo because of the emission system that comes with it. What happened is that the soot built up so much in the intake manifold that it cloque the system, which made the throttle to stick which eventually blew up the turbo. Hopefully, this doesn't happen to the new EcoDiesels
The Gen 3 engine significantly improved the soot problem with the dual high/low EGR. The low EGR pulls the gases after the DPF which keeps the system much cleaner. Even the engine oil is much cleaner on my 3rd gen EcoDiesel.

Due to the EcoDiesel Settlement, I actually have 120,000 mile warranty on my 2nd gen EcoDiesel, so I'm not going to replace the intake until the warranty period of over. But once the warranty period if over, I plan to replace the intake with a new one. The part is fairly cheap. The new GDE EPA Compliant Tune will keep the intake much cleaner.

Why is it that a question in the diesel section specifically to diesel owners draws the interest and ignorance of those that don't own or drive the specific vehicle in question......oh well it is kind of humorous to see them make fools of themselves.

I dont speak for everybody......but for nearly 100% of us that have owned both gas and diesel gladiators, diesel wins hands down.......no regrets.

I bought the 2020 gas rubi in may traded for identical 2021 diesel in December. Went from 11 miles gallon on 35s gas and 17 miles gallon on 37s diesel. And enough power to imagine more as being overkill /hard on drivetrain .

This post was intended to find those who had or have a diesel and why they regretted the decision of the diesel.

Why would a previous diesel owner be hanging out in the diesel section?

I see a lot of gas guys have moved from the gas and into a diesel... but I haven't seen anyone make the switch from diesel and move to gas Gladiator.

Have seen a lot of references to warranty here, but nobody seems to have read the actual text. The EGR system is excluded from the "power train" warranty and is only covered for 24mos/24k miles.

For this reason I picked up a 6yr/unlimited mile warranty. The cost was just over $2,500 (got it for $100 over dealer cost) so it made perfect sense to me.

It's covered for 3 years/36k, which is in that first paragraph.

Still, not a long time...

For those of you with the 3.0, I love this thread. Loved my duramax and plan on getting a JTD when I can which will be a couple years at least.

By the way, motortend are idiots... they are probably all still looking for that magical spool of flight line
