You see strange things last week I saw a roxor with South Dakota M/C plates. In FL roxors are not street legal due to top speed. People buy them in Alabama and register them with a restricted plate. Then transferer them to Fl, since Fl does not issue restricted plates they get a regular tag.

Buy a Renegade!! Lol Wrangler and Gladiator buyers want a little bigger. The rest have plenty of options.

I drove a 2018 Compass (new body style) for work a few years back. It was a capable little SUV and honestly was great in the snow. Then moved to a 2019 Trailhawk Elite. Loved that car for on the road driving and last December I drove from MKE WI to Waterloo IA in the biggest snow storm of the year. Couldn’t believe how well the AWD handled the snow, and the HWY was covered and deep... Had to keep telling myself not to be the jerk blowing by everyone else.

I think that space filled with marketable comfortable small SUVs that are easy to produce. I don’t think there’s a big enough market for a true off road mini wrangler. Most want comfort in that segment with some stickers that make it “bada$$!”

The Mahinda Roxor is pretty fantastic. Little turbo 3 diesel on it, no emissions and plenty of street legal kits out. I checked one out at a local farm implement & machinery shop and they are beautifully simple.

I finally got to ride in one of these a couple of months ago, and it is such a cool little vehicle. Apparently it is possible to register one in Alabama as a mini-truck; if I had $20k to burn I'd get one in a heartbeat.

The Roxor is pretty cool, but weighs 63% more than a Samurai and about the same HP? No wonder they top out a 55mph.......For $20K one could be a pretty built engine swapped Samurai that is already street legal and possibly better road manners?

That was a Jimny (what we knew as a Samurai when we got them here). They still make them, they just don't sell them here since they don't meet safety requirements here. Did it have Mexican plates on it maybe? Otherwise, maybe a grey market import. The grey market ones are on borrowed time. Sooner or later, customs will catch up to them and crush them.
No he had Texas plates. Really cool shade of blue. He had the top open. Well he's driving it out in the Hill Country which is pretty deserted area for the most part so maybe he has a way around it. Really nice looking little vehicle

I run South Dakota plates on my SXS so I don't have to trailer it in NC. State reciprocity on vehicle tags is a gray area and LE looks the other way. Check out dirtlegal.com... they can get you plated on many vehicles. Opens up all kinds of possibilities as long as you understand the risk of driving a non-crash tested vehicle on the road.

lol. A Renegade doesnt even remotely compare with the old TJ. It has awd and independent suspension, TJ/Wrangler is a straight axle. And there really is not any other street legal new options aside from the 2 door Wrangler that can compare

If the Gladiator was any larger, I would not have purchased it.

Actually alot of wrangler/gladiators would probably love the renegade. Jay could open up a Renegade forum and members would post long, well thought out threads on their "build" describing the affectionate name they came up with for their "rigs" and what color schemes and accents they are planning for interior and exterior upgrades. There would be long threads about gas milage and a handful of members confused why they can't 27 mpg like everyone else.

It would open a floodgate for aftermarket products like tiny tents that mount to the roof, midget stretchers and mounts, gas can mounts for the rear hatch and hood mounted jacks. And no overlanding Renegade rig would be complete without some eye lash adhesive stickers for the headlights. The forum would be giddy with metro men overlanding their Renegades out and posting glamor shots.

You my friend are 100% correct but that’s my point. They have a two door already that shares a boat load of parts, going smaller and the cost would be prohibitive and require engineering, safety testing, separate production line etc. That space is already crowded and they’d be stealing buyers from themselves.

Buy a TJ, rebuild and have fun!

I know it's ridiculous. I saw one in suburbia a couple months ago. Sounded like it was going 100 mph just to keep up in 45 mph traffic.
That is because their engines are high output, high rpm snowmobile engines. I have a KRX1000, 115 hp in an engine that weighs about 200lbs. Top speed in the 65mph range at 8500 rpm or so. 35 inch tires with no suspension mods required. They are all CVT drive (except the Honda Talon). If you get into the Polaris turbo machines, you get into the 170hp range and they run >100mph, but they weigh a lot less than a KRX and are fairly "fragile". The KRX is a built rock crawler the rzrs are better for dunes and the like.

oh no doubt your right. I know a smaller version, at least made by Jeep, will never be. Us Americans are addicted to the ‘go bolder than anyone has ever bolded before!’ Aspect. Alls I am saying is that I do wish the wrangler, and even gladiator, would shrink just a tad, realizing it never will. Which is one reason I will never sell my TJ. Because that little thing is just amazing where it can go. The two door wrangler is longer and wider than the TJ. Not by much. But enough that makes the TJ able to get places the wrangler would struggle in. But a similar statement can be said in favor of the wider wrangler compared to the TJ. It all depends on individual use cases. But like you said Jeep is a business and businesses make money. More people want bigger bolder than smaller and simpler. Which is why we have what is currently available. And this is not to talk negative about the wrangler or gladiator either. I love my gladiator. it is the second best vehicle i have eve owned next to the TJ.

I also have a suspicion that going smaller would go against some type of federal law somewheres. Granted some cars are smaller than the wrangler but it seems plausible to me that due to the tip over risk of the TJ theres legally no going back even if they wanted. I think even the maverick is wider than the TJ.

I am happy though that the Gladiator is not any bigger.

My opinion is that when 40"+ tires and 1 tons are pretty much a requirement to do moderate trails without leaving metal deposits everywhere, the vehicle has gotten too big and heavy for me.
If you have a YJ, you've probably been into Jeeps longer than I've been alive, so you know this, but when I got my first Jeep (an XJ) in the early 2000's, having 35's was a big deal, even for a TJ. If you had 35's you were freaking serious.

It's crazy to me how many people now think 35's are only barely adequate. Folks act like you can't even think of going offroad until you put on 35's. I know you're exaggerating when you say you need 40's for moderate trails, but that does seem to be the mindset of a lot of people.

Back down to TJ size besides me? I love the jk/jl and jt but I think the wrangler would benefit from getting back down to its roots especially with the notion that power plants will decrease in displacement as well as go hybrid and all electric. Reduce weight and footprint and get better milage. Pretty easy concept.

Trucks and suvs just seem to get bigger and bigger. I would love a 2 door gladiator with the same dimensions as a 2 door TJ brute truck or even an extended cab. Shorter, narrower and less weight. Everytime I see a new truck it just looks like dick measuring contest from the manufacturer. Who can have the biggest grill, widest stance, pretty chrome and flashy stickers. Is there no end to this madness?

It would be cool to see a resurgence of vehicles like the samurai (Suzuki jimny), geo tracker, trucks like the old ranger, s10 and tacoma. Iam clearly a minority.
Do you understand business and sales?

Personal opinions are bias and one sided. If you think you can do better, feel free to raise the capital and build a better business and business model.

YAY, another person to piss complain thread. If you want something, put your money where your mouth is and build the perfect Jeep.

I do which is why I started the discussion so I could confirm "iam clearly a minority". Why don't you go bolt on some more "mods" to your "rig" instead of reading opinions that hurt your feelings.
