Ok. Thanks for that.
Don’t think that’s for me. I think I’ll go with the single tune. Probably the tow tune. The heaviest I tow is my boat at 3600lbs dry.
Wow. Yeah, I'm now super glad I went with the tow tune as my singular tune.

Why does everyone say they use a laptop to clone the ECM? Can I bring the ECM inside my house and use a normal PC?

The easiest answer is that most have an older crappy laptop that is past its usage and you can do it on a table. The cloning process likes to use older version of windows and the program itself should not be updated so turn off WiFi.....I am sure I am saying this a little incorrectly but all the info is in this thread. Just easier to do on a dedicated laptop that is really not worth much.

Desktop vs. laptop shouldn't matter at all, and yes you can bring it inside - and it's definitely easier that way. However, I wasn't able to get the software/flash utility to work with Windows 11. So you probably will need to use a computer that runs Windows 10, at the latest (Windows 7 or 8 would probably work too). I used an old Surface tablet I have laying around that still runs windows 10.

For me, it was not having to mess with removal of the original ECM and do the cloning process. Once done, you would not need to reinstall it back in. Cloning itself it doesn't matter where you do it, it was more convenient for me to do it chair side with laptop.

I did it in the house because I wanted to confirm my cloning process worked and did not have red security light. But that's just me

I do it with my desktop running Windows 11 just fine. Have done several now.

Looking for someone in the central (Austin) or north (Ft. Worth) Texas area to clone my ECU. I don't have a personal PC and can't install anything on my work PC.

I am in San Antonio. I got the kit but haven't used it yet but we can give it a shot if you want to come this way.

I laugh, but when it comes time for me to do it, I'll probably be asking for help also.

Good luck.

When you go to WRITE the files to the new/blank ECM, should you 'check' these options in PCMFlash:

"Disable digital signature checks (unlock ECU)" ? [In PCMFlash this option is DISABLED by default]

What about "Verify & Fix CDC" [In PCMFlash this option is ENABLED by default]

Thanks!

Trying to make sure I'm going about this the correct way. I can get a new ECU, part 68256850AA, for about $250. Then order one of the SM2 PRO 1.20 kits like this and that will allow me to clone my own ECU using a Windows 10 computer? Assuming I'm going to try this myself, is using a new ECU the best way to go about it? Or would I be better off buying a used ECU off ebay for $85 and using it?

I've seen posts talking about a pdf file with instructions that is or was linked somewhere in this thread but I have not been able to find it. Can anyone point me to it or, if it was removed, maybe send me a copy?

it's early in this thread a few times - https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/ecu-pcm-clone-process-pricing.67939/post-1368371

I'd recommend investing the hour or 2 in reading this whole thread, there is a lot of comments and tips and tricks to make the process easier and more reliable.

Used is doable but you do run the (likely small) chance that the PCM is non-functional or if it was tuned it could be locked. If you don't mind possibly tinkering with it go ahead, else if you just want to get it done and ship it off just buy a new one, they're reasonable. It's been a while since I last read through this thread but I think 1-2 people commented that they did used PCMs.
