Yeah it absolutely amazes me that 3 years later, there are still people bi*ching about the time it takes to make a SINGLE button press. Sigh....Damn...
There's no, "Dislike," button...
So if you have to scroll through a warning on the dash, why not just push the ESS Off button instead? Then you don't get the warning, no A!-alert, and the ESS is off.
Kevin
It will go on for at least 2 more pages. It's not a fix, it's a hack, and who knows what the other consequences are. Switches can have other functions unless the OP has looked through the schematics to ensure THAT switch serves NO other function - even in an accident. How ironic that a thread with a title "Enough about ESS!" goes on for 3 pages already.
Obviously, the myriad of other threads on the subject still have not beaten this subject to death yet.
What are the odds this will be the last one?
I might be old but I can learn new tricks. Press Start, ESS Disable, set climate controls, adjust sound system. 10 seconds later at most, after scanning the indicators, warning lights and especially oil pressure, I am ready to go. No muss, fuss or grumbling and I get to move on to more importanat things. Just my 2c and prolly not worth a hill of beans.
Removing the ESS battery doesn't disable auto stop/start, it will still kick in 6 times per power cycle before detecting an issue and shutting off.
I deleted all the ESS wiring. I bought an extra harness to pull apart without having to cut up my stock harness. You can unwrap all of the harness and pull out the wires you need. I wanted to make sure everything was functioning properly before cleaning up all the wiring. This also fixed random codes that used to pop up as well. I am going to clean up the wiring now that everything has been trouble free.
Our diesel auto also has an ESS disable button. Not just an M6 thing. There is a dash switch to disable it. Why mess with the hood? Or maybe that is only on the M6?
It's on all Jeeps as far as I know....... I believe even the grand cherokee. It's certainly on all Gladiators - all of 'em.Our diesel auto also has an ESS disable button. Not just an M6 thing.
Can't do that. Auto makers can't give the built-in ability to defeat it.1 more button push sucks. Almost defeats the point of keyless start. I dont want a multistep process for driving off. Disabling ess is the #2 reason i got a tazer after adjusting tire size.
So, of course its no big deal to always have to press an extra button every time you start the car, but this is an unnecessary feature forced upon us...a lot like automatic updates.
Microsoft gives you the option to diable it but makes it a pain the ass to do so and nags you when you do....why? Its my effing computer. Ill set it up how i want!
all they had to do was make ther ess on/off button rememberyour choice.
