How much labor to remove and replace the cab off our trucks? I’d say probably 7 hours total, the hose they point to is maybe 1 hour, that’s 8 hours of labor for a hose that is inaccessible. I’ve done everything in my garage, rebuilt motors, pulled transmissions, installed lunchbox lockers, lift kits, etc. What I don’t have the ability to do is lift the cab off… that seems to be the way they’re moving to both advance technology and to also maybe limit the amount of work we can do without needing to use a shop. What could be a $120 hose and a few hours cursing turns into $1,500 with no lube.

Looks like I need to see if my neighbor wants to sell his gantry crane. That, with the one I already have, could do the job. Mine will lift a sprint car high enough to back a trailer under it and set it down on the trailer. I used it to lift the SX4 to install the drive train from under the car, but that was lifting just one end of the car in the air. The cab of a JT would be lighter but how to lift it from one lift point and keep it even and level would be tricky.

That’s treading the fine line for me of what I’m willing to do. Maybe the reason old square body Chevy’s are through the roof is because of the fact that you can work on them, something that’s becoming more and more difficult. I’ve wrenched my whole life, as a hobby, but with pride albeit. If I’m risking dropping a cab, forget the damage, the self hatred, how do you even get it back up and on the truck to deal with? I don’t know I even want to go that far into it.

My second gen 4Runner blew a freeze plug at 190K miles. Had to drop the entire drivetrain to do a $25 repair that may not have been even fixable. Forced me to sell the truck because at the time spending $1500 to maybe fix the issue wasn't even remotely possible.

Modern vehicles with all their sensors and doodads require a knowledge of not only where the 10mm socket went but more importantly how to code. It's part of why I love my 20year old BMW. Sure, it's needlessly complicated but it's **mostly** mechanical. It has just enough sensors to keep it interesting.

Yeah, reality sets in, and I think - what the @#$% am i even thinking??!?!
Too much trouble as it is, getting too old for that complex stuff these days.
In fact, I'm starting to plan for getting rid of a few things as it is - i just don't want to mess with boring heavy blocks any more so have a guy interested in my boring bar, hopefully maybe the rod hone, among some other things.

how old is your PC?
The days of build your own and modify hardware in seconds is all but gone unless you get a gaming desktop. There's a huge move to the "all-in-one" like Apple pioneered decades ago.
Laptops and desktops often have weird memory configurations that make upgrades more difficult.
I used to buy case, motherboard, video card, power supply, etc. etc. of my own choosing - today, check out stores like Best Buy, Costco and others and see what the offerings are. You can still order and build, but it's not like it used to be.
The days of "my type of computer" are gone - heck, the video card is 3/4 of the bloody system. All I wanted was a good computer - but to get some of what I wanted, it was like buying a 2024 model year Gladiator - you must buy high-end gaming machines to get that stuff - you must buy a X model to get those seats.
I just build my own computers anymore. Just finished one back in November. Only took a few hours. I've also did various upgrades to my pretty recent Lenovo laptop (RAM, hard drive).

As for that Hurricane. Looks like a mess. Makes me love my lowly Pentastar even more.

Makes me really love that incredibly small and simple 3.8 in the 2006 Chrysler van we just picked up ?

The last rebuild we did was a 24 valve Cummins in an 04 Ram. Once you have the wiring harness out of the way, the single wiring harness from what I recall, the motor popped right out. I had a kit in the mail in 2 days with pistons, rods, rings, gaskets, head studs after the machine shop honed it. It took maybe a grand total of 20 hours for me and my pops to drain, rip, tear up and replace and get back on the road. That included a lot of wtf do we do here without a lift and just a hoist, convincing things to go back in place, etc. Kicker is, that motor was in a work truck that was abused for 400k miles before cylinder 6 gave up the ghost due to oil starvation, but it was still running…. Emissions, computer chips, sensors, advancements in manufacturing will make tales like this an old tale… and I’m only in my only 30’s.

My son has for years rolled his own computers, but started comparing the prices of decent parts compared to a good turnkey system - you can buy one cheaper than the parts.
He went online and looked up the parts and pieces of my latest desktop system and said that it would cost another 300+ to build this same system with the same system board, video, RAM, SD drive and so on.

I'm pretty happy with my Lenovo laptop as it is....... so far, no need to make any changes.

The Hurricane engine has to be a tech nightmare - if things don't operate exactly as planned, watch out.
There's a cool factor to it - an I6 with that much power and torque, but to get there, it's got to be operating on the bleeding edge.
I love the thought - I've been an I6 person for a lot of years, and love it when people get crazy numbers from say a 258 or 4.0, but...........

He went online and looked up the parts and pieces of my latest desktop system and said that it would cost another 300+ to build this same system with the same system board, video, RAM, SD drive and so on.

I'm pretty happy with my Lenovo laptop as it is....... so far, no need to make any changes.

I'm not looking forward to when, not if, the Hurricane strikes (pun intended). Right now they are still new enough that major problems haven't really been seen, most issues at present are software bugs that are being worked out with new flashes. But that was the case with the Hurricane's father, the 2.0. When the Hurricane has a couple of years or so of production behind it, it might be a decent engine. Right now, I don't want one.

The current inline engines (2.0 and 3.0 Hurricane) are technically advanced, make awesome power and torque, and are a packaging nightmare for anyone to work on without the patience of Job. Makes me glad that full retirement is only fourteen months away. I'll gladly let the youngsters have the Hurricane and it's brethren, and the BEVs.

Supposedly the Charger will eventually get the Hurricane, unless Stellantis decides to let Dodge die for lack of products that their fan base actually want. I have no problem with electric cars for people who want them (full disclosure, I won't buy anything that is BEV), but Dodge has spent decades promoting V8 powered vehicles, especially Hemis.

Now their masters at Stellantis tell them to go electric, and how do you make it feel and sound like a traditional Dodge. You can't. No one can knock the actual performance capabilities of properly designed BEVs, but they lack the "soul" of a traditional Dodge muscle car.

Sorry not finding it cheaper to get a pre-built for gaming. Hell I have as a soon to start task building my own pc case from wood. Want to make it easy to care for, look good and function well.

That's crazy honestly. I bet the 2025/2026 remodel will do something about it... maybe? If the ecodiesel can't keep cool in peak summer, I highly doubt a motor with two turbos will fair any better without engineering changes to the front end.

Doesn't the pacifica already have a 3.6 hybrid variant? I know we Jeep people are perfectly not needing to compensate and are content with minivan engines anyways... except for us oil burner guys.... ?
