I have 728 miles on my JT and was headed home today and heard a plastic rubbing. Pulled over and both of my inner fenders were destroyed. They got sucked right down into the tire. Any advise?

Alex,

Looking for advise on what direction to head with the inner fender issue. I had both of mine severely damaged today on the freeway at 72 mph

All JeepCares is going to tell you is schedule an appointment at the dealer for a warranty claim. All they are going to do there is put the same part number back on unless they get a revised superseding part that fixes the issue.

Not much choices here other than going aftermarket for fender liners or doing the zip tie mod some have previously mentioned.

Hello Henson002098 and Hootbro,
Just for clarification, we do have a repair process in place. This is why it is key to have a case set up to ensure the proper repair process is followed to address this concern. Please feel free to send us a private message and we would be happy to get you connected with a case specialist!

Has anyone done the repair using the ā€œJeep Caresā€ process? Iā€™d like to know what they are communicating to the dealer for the fix. The fix shouldnā€™t be a secret. I know what some others are doing to fix it by reading the thread, but Iā€™m curious as to the fix Jeep Cares is having the dealer do.

I had a rep from Chrysler HQ call me and varify dealership and want to know what had been scheduled. He contacted them to insure the new, updated part numbers were ordered and not just the original. I'll update the thread with what they do.

Quick question. Has this issue been reported more in Rubicons without the bumper-to-fender scoop? I drove 70miles @ speeds of 80+ in windy conditions in a Sport S and nothing.

I noticed how flimsy the inner fenders were when power washing my truck. I checked them after reading this thread and there are no signs of the inner fender being pulled out even slightly from their position.

Is this happening on both sides? If a engineering design issue, I would think the problem would be inverse and happening on both sides. Would also think it would start popping up for other members who have also take delivery of a JT Rubicon.

I think there is more going on here to figure out root cause than to just say it is lousy engineering and failed product development.
Nope happening to me. Drivers side is the worst. Rear ones rubbing too but not as bad. Only a matter of time before the passenger one fails. They are just super flimsy!

How do I contact jeep cares? And verify Iā€™m getting the updated part numbers?

I just installed a lift on my jt and, after reading this thread, decided to head off the fender flap. I drilled holes and zip tied them to the frame. So far no issues.

So just got through installing the drivers side MetalCloak inner fender. My input
1. Get ready for a struggle
2. Stock fenders will not have as much protection part of the old liner covers the fender interior
3. When/If you purchase make sure they include 8 of the larger button head bolts takes for per side( spoke with MC and they are revising their JT kits
4. If you donā€™t cuss now you will by the time you are through
5. Expect to spend longer than they estimate for completed job.
6. The folks at MC are absolutely stand up people they are over nightingale the correct number of bolts( when you live in a town of 1200 your local hardware store is no help
