EVs are have their limitations, and that is my issue. It works for cars in short drives for sure. Hell most of my drives it would work great. BUT it would not work for our trip to North Dakota this summer. This is back to why I want the real hybrid of electric drive train and a gas motor for a generator. I could have a battery that gets me even as low as 15 miles and I would be able to do most of my driving on electric only and be able to still drive and haul things when I want.

Another issue with EVs is that they are being pushed and forced. Tesla made an electric that works and people want. Ford and others are not doing that, hence the losses and the price raises to subsidize it.

Is a 280 mile drive ' short '? My Mojave has a 285 mile range....says so in the dash after driving it 2 years with my 14mpg average.

The worst State in the nation .... mine....has that 2035 target. Probably will be pushed to 2050.... they're banking on EV tech being able to replace all...including 1 ton diesels. It will happen....only question is when. It's important to understand we will get to a point where an EV truck will exist that can pull a 35,000 lb load 1,000 miles on a single charge. It's going to happen.

Will any of us be alive? No clue. It's going to happen though.

I could have predicted the comments in this thread even before I read them…

Are EV’s the perfect answer for everyone? Of course not.

Do the majority of families in the US have 2 or more vehicles? Yes they do.

Do a majority of those families have the ability to install their own charger? Yes they do.

So even as a car guy with 4 vehicles in our family fleet I looked into and EV and am happy to have bought one about 2 months ago. I will be the first to admit that we are still learning its abilities and drawbacks but that is the same for any vehicle. I am not nearly worried about range limitations as I was a few months ago.

And even though I don’t have any solar (I am looking into it) my model YLR is way cheaper to operate than any of the other 3 vehicles we have.

Why not have both?

Hydrogen is a useless middle man. Takes a bunch of energy to get the hydrogen, when you could just use that energy for power and skip the extra steps.

Why don't you do your thing and I'll do mine and we will all be harmonious together? Let manufacturers decide what and how they build and let EV progress organically. That is not what has happened though and that is why you can predict the comments.

My belief is that the same thing will happen with the batteries and power consumption. Once the batteries reach end of life, and they will, what happens to them? Can the electricial grid handle everything being electric?

And yes I have an PHEV as well as a gas vehicle.

Everyone that went nuts hiring during the pandemic boom is just getting rid of the excess now that the wave is over. Same thing with tech companies. Nearly all of these companies are still at or near record profits, they are just getting rid of no longer needed employees because layoffs boost stock prices.

That is what my company used to do every year. Come October everyone used to wait cause they new the big layoff was coming.

One of my old neighbors here in Texas used to work for Power Company and some years back he said that there was no way that if every person bought one or two EV in our area that the grid could handle it. Not even half the people or maybe even less. With that said I do find the cars interesting and wouldn't mind have one as say a work commute vehicle but just can't justify the expense and all required to do such.

EV's really only make sense for the consumer in an area without power delivery issues, who make shorter trips and have a place to install a charger. For everyone else, they are a losing proposition. I have one I bought in 2015 (lease return) that has worked out well for me. The longer I have had the JT, the less it gets driven.

We tried to get my mother in law to get an EV as she would be the perfect customer for one. Elderly and just drives daily around her house for errands and such. But she is old school and she would not have anything to do with it (LOL)

Hmm you should call Bloom Energy and let them know…. They have switched over most of their power systems from natural gas to hydrogen…. (Google, Microsoft, many Home Depot’s, all use bloom energy for powering their business.)
