Back in the day, when manufacturers came out with a new model. They would offer small plastic models of the vehicle coming out.

Dad sold Ford. I still have my light blue Mustang 2+2 fastback, 2 D cell batteries drives the thing with headlights, tail lights and set and forget front steering. It also came in orange.

My 2013 Eco-Boom Escape, 2.0 Turbo, with tow package, claimed 3650 #, hard pressed with less than 2K. Haven't tried the Glad yet. Yet I feel much better about the naturally aspirated.
keep in mind a lot has likely changed with the engine/tuning and transmission in 9 years. The Maverick also comes with a 2.5l gas electric hybrid which would be very different from your 2013 escape.

Depending on the model?

Yes, dependent on trim. They do still offer the 2.0l turbo but it’s paired with an 8 speed auto versus the 6 speed offered in the older Escape.

Hmm... something smells fishy in Detroit.

"Last August, before the Maverick went on sale, Ford had said it had already received 100,000 orders for the truck. The company has not provided any updates on orders since then. But like the truck itself, Ford Maverick's actual sales are tiny compared to those of the much bigger F-series pickup which is the best selling vehicle of any kind in America. In December, 2021, for instance, Ford sold over 62,400 F-series trucks compared to just over 6,000 Mavericks. In total, Ford sold over 13,000 Mavericks since the truck first went on sale in October. "

100k orders, but only 13k buyers? And they're closing ordering?

I think Ford is spinning this harder than Psaki after a Biden press conference.

More likely is Ford can't build enough because of the parts problems (supply chain). Stopping orders will inflate demand and keep pricing of new orders high (see: Kia Telluride).

The Maverick launch is tracking similar, if not a little slower, to the Gladiator launch.
Ford doesn't benefit from dealer markup. Ford benefits from volume sales. They want more than anything to sell as many Mavericks as possible. As with many other vehicles, parts availability is the problem. If parts availability was not a problem, Ford would be selling record numbers of the Maverick and Mach E.

I hate to admit it, I like the thing. Great payload and decent trailering for such a small ride.

I like the design personally, utilitarian and efficient packaging and impressive payload. It would need to naturally aspirated, non-hybrid and available manual before I'd trust it or really enjoy driving it, which of course won't happen.

IMO, payload is really pretty good at 1500. Compare that to 1100-1200 for many of our JTs. Towing at 4,000 pounds would easily pull my neighbors trailer that he bought to haul his JD lawn tractor around with so he could volunteer to mow the church lot and cemetery, and help out friends. I bet he's only at 3,000-3500 and it's a low load. It would do for a lot of people.
It could have hauled my car hauler to Omaha and back with the AMC dealer signs - 1600 for trailer, 100 for the signs plug another 20 for the plywood to strap them down. well under 2000.
I'm a big proponent of payload. 1500 is close to the big boys. My friend has a Chevy 1500 and it had 1650 . My manual has a 1500 and I love saying I can carry what hers can

I remember these - we all got them for Christmas. As I recall there were a couple colors besides the light blue… wonder what ever happened to them!

Ice arena couple maverick around town. They don’t look to bad. Nothing really exciting about them. Just a great value for what you get. I think we will be seeing a lot of them in the future. I’m holding out for the Raptor trim!

But would jeep sell it at $20K ?
Yes, 26k for a stripped down version with a very under powered engine. 50k for the “trail hawk” version.

It doesn't look all that great to me. I would much rather own a Honda Ridgeline than a Maveick.
Truck community likes to kick the Honda Ridgeline but they are pretty nice for what they are.

I bought a early 2021 Honda Ridgeline as a third vehicle for the household. When the used car market exploded in mid to late 2021, me and the wife decided to sell one of our vehicles and go back down to two. Wife without hesitation wanted the Ridgeline to stay over her Colorado ZR1 which got sold off.

Ford Maverick though is an interesting proposition in terms of price and fuel economy with the Hybrid version and not one I would overlook for a daily driver commuter.
