Hello fellow jeepers. I recently purchased a brand new sting grey Jeep Gladiator Rubicon. Drove it off the lot with 34km just over a week ago. The gladiator isn’t my first Jeep, I’ve had four others including a 90 Wagoneer Limited which I still drive. Today I pulled the Jeep into my garage with the intent to spray a rust protectant of fluid film on the undercarriage. Here’s what I found:

Taking the Jeep in first thing Friday morning. It looks to me that the frame was possibly moved at some point with some sort of forklift or conveying device. This is my assumption as there is no damage to any of the lower hanging parts, just these spots directly across each other on either side of the frame.

Waiting game now I suppose.

Would expect the dealer to clean it, sand it, and undercoat it.

almost looks like points where the arms of a lift would sit. although even without the rubber pads on the arm ends ive never seen a lift scratch the frame like this. nothing looks bent? i agree with Mac and Lobelsteve. unfortunately, you might want to prepare yourself for the dealer to do nothing. i'd prep and paint it and call it a day. i'm going to Por15 the entire underside of mine the day it comes in anyway. NY winters will eat this thing.

Same spot on both sides? Could it have bottomed out coming off the transporter ?

Thats what I was thinking. Back when I sold cars, it wasn't uncommon for something to drag if the truck wasn't set up exactly right.

Either way, this isn't "frame damage". Its some scuffed paint.

I'm guessing you aren't ever planning to take it off road. Because with the Gladiator's mile long wheelbase, its going to drag anyway, ha.

Mine had some scuffed paint in these areas as well. Not as bad as yours for sure. It's just scuffed paint, so I cleaned it and slapped some RustOleum semi-gloss paint over those areas. I figured the paint damage was from tie-down during transport.

I agree with OP - odd to see that kind of scuffing and OK to question. But at the end of the day it doesn't look like "structural damage" just cosmetic. I'd protect the bare metal as noted above and move on to solving world hunger. : ) Welcome to the JT club. best jeep club there is!

Yep...just some scuffed paint on the underbelly. Not even worth letting it raise your blood pressure or the time to make the appointment and trip to the dealer. A few squirts of rustoleum or the fluid film and call it a day.

Yeah, I agree with @87chief. Looks likes scuffs from being on a 4 arm shop lift.

I would spray it with whatever can of black paint and/or Rustoleum, Fluid Film it and call it good.

Hey guys I do understand that it’s not frame damage in the sense that it should be a write-off. To me it’s damage that should have been at least disclosed to me as there was an inspection done upon receiving the vehicle at the dealership, if this is missed, what else was missed. I live in Manitoba so no there will be no wknd trips to Moab, I just expect to receive what I paid for is all. Also I have been instructed by the dealer not to apply the fluid film at this point until they can inspect it, unfortunately we have just received our winters first snow storm.

Picking the fly shit out of the pepper on this one. Your dealership is going to feign concern to placate you and do what I previously said and spray some paint and send you on your way.

When dealers inspect these I highly doubt they crawl underneath to look for this type of scuffs. I agree with the above posts get some paint and touch it up as my time is way more valuable to me than going to the dealer for this.

good luck though and let us know what they say

Good luck. Hopefully you have a reputable dealer. after delivery, I noticed scraped paint where the hood closes on mine. They offered to sell me touch up paint. I suspect this stuff will be your friend. I use it for touch ups after off roading. I also used Por-15 on the frame of my classic car. Works great.
