Ended up adding an outlet to mine. A few hours and $35 later and haven’t had any issues so far, this will be it’s first winter but we’ve already gotten down to the teens.

I picked up a smart adapter from Amazon that ties in-line which allows me to set a schedule and supports inching which allows me to tap the app once and it will auto shutoff after X amount of time (an hour is what I have it on now). Was an additional $20 but well worth it. No big brother external connection either, local network only.

Yep I have seen this and thought about getting it for MI but the truck warms up quite quickly... Probably due to limited airflow to begin with
Everyone has a different opinion on when covers are needed, but quite a few Ram owners have noticed fuel economy improvements with the cover at 32*F. If I had a Gladiator, I would probably put the cover on at 32*F and leave the flaps open. Diesels would rather be a little too warm than a little too cold., especially if you plan to idle the truck.

You sure that's not just due to improved aerodynamics?

I couldn't answer that question with certainty. It seems that the gurus really believe that warmer engine temps help with fuel economy, therefore they are convinced that the cover should go on at 32*F for optimum fuel economy. As a side note, the owner's manual for the Ram recommends that the winter cover be used when ambient temperatures reach 32*F.

For the record, PCM removal on these is a PITA. DON'T attempt unless you have patience and an assortment of tools.

Is it really that bad?? By the look of where it’s at it would seem rather easy. It is right in front of the battery is it not ? Or is there a bunch of crap in the way of one final screw that must come out in order to get the damn thing out ? I have not looked at all at how to remove it so idk lol

what are the warranty implications with this programming and can the banks throttle/gauge setup work in concert?

Top two nuts are easy. Bottom two are both in places where sockets barely fit, wrenches can't turn, and fingers can't reach. I ended up pulling the fuse block out to make a little more access. Had to use the stick magnet to recover dropped nuts multiple times. Also needed to pry the PCM out because it sits down in a recess and won't clear the studs for removal without being forced. What a pain. Oh, and kill power first by removing the fender ground cables!

We are not planning to do mail in clone setups. Best to get your local dealer to setup a spare ecm for you and then ship your original stock unit to us for tuning. Thanks GDE
That's a shame and what prevents me from going with the GDE tune. I'm not going to run a tune without a backup plan. I had a 2014 Grand Cherokee with the EcoDiesel that had the cam slip problem and the engine was destroyed.

I'd imagine going into my dealer service center and asking them to clone my ECU would raise all sorts of flags and questions. And not to mention it being possibly tracked to my VIN.

Naw, just tell them you want a back up for emergencies because you do a lot of trail riding.

You don't have to go to the dealer to get the clone. There are others who have equipment to do that for you. Go visit the Ram EcoDiesel forums and social media groups to learn what others have done.

Call GDE. They can set up a clone ecm if desired now. If you need an ecm as well, the cost is $750. You still need to mail in your stock ecm for the cloning process.

I have an assortment of tools and patience, seems I’m clear to pull the PCM but one thing I’d like clarification on @Keith Diesel (great to hear cloning is now offered btw) is if the tune can reside on the clone. Based on your recent note above, could the process go as follows:

1. PCM is pulled and shipped to y’all.
2. Stock PCM is cloned to another unit.
3. The newly cloned unit is tuned, leaving the stocker stock.
4. Original PCM and clone are sent back.
5. We run the clone, at which point we can optionally swap back to stock if desired.
6. Fee wise, it would be the tune cost + $750 for the clone.

Does that all sound about right and if so, do you have a few PCMs in stock to this this now?
