Make no sense as they take orders via their website for other products using PayPal....Ran into yet another snag. GDE only accepts cash for in-house tuning. Which means I'd have to carry over a grand in cash across two state lines. And that's assuming that right this second I even have over a grand of cash free this week.
It's like the Jeep gods are telling me not to tune this truck.
Got this back from GDE just now:I mean, I don't understand how they can accept cards when you mail in your ECU but they won't if you drive in with your ECU. What's the difference?
May sound like paranoia but I've heard many stories of people getting pulled over and having large amounts of cash seized under shady guise of law, and then it costs a fortune to get it back in court. I just never have liked to drive long distances with cash, especially to Detroit. It's legal theft by authorities. Easy way to pad their own funds I guess.
$1100 cash is not substantial. Had a guy buy my motorcycle for almost $40k cash. He drove from TN to TX to pick up.
Yeah it's all fun and games until it isn't. Again, I have a lot of family in law enforcement and I've heard many bad stories about people getting cash confiscated on the interstate.Yeah, I'm with you. Nobody cares about 1k crossing state lines or whatever else.
Well, if I order online I suffer potentially many days of downtime with my truck and it also costs more. Apparently it's $160 less money to drive in for tuning. I'm carrying on with my appointment on Thursday.Got this back from GDE just now:
It will be for sale on the website Nov 20th. We are currently only selling it to those who want to drive to our facility until then.
Translation....just wait 4 more days to order it with PayPal...
Very good info. Thanks for sharing. We had a drive in customer on Monday that had a competitor stage 1 tune on this truck from north of the border. The GDE tune as a comparison has higher hp and torque throughout the operating range and was about 0.7 seconds quicker on 0-60 run. We ran an emission prep cycle on this Canadian tune and it showed 0.6 mpg worse than factory. This northern tune was sold to customer stating the egr was turned off and no changes to the safety limits. This was not true as both egr (high and low pressure) systems were active, the exhaust temp limit was raised from 1529 F to 1706 F, and overheat protection was raised for coolant temps. This customer also had a trans tune from the Canadians...better to stay stock than use this stuff.
Needless to say, the customer left with the GDE engine and trans tune installed and his previous tuning will be up for sale soon. We are looking forward to his feedback as the miles are put on.
Very uncool due to the fact that your suggestion makes so much sense. Anyhow, a fabricated secret cavity is clearly in order. If you are worried about carrying 1k around the whole time, just hit a local bank and pull out the funds just before your tune. If your bank is not in that state just let your bank know first, and they can up your ATM limits for you that day.
Prison wallet......Very uncool due to the fact that your suggestion makes so much sense. Anyhow, a fabricated secret cavity is clearly in order.
Affirmative.Prison wallet......
send him a pic of the two white stickers on your pcm, the angle gets weird for the lower one but you need only pop your hood and you’ll see them stuck on the outside of the PCM just before your batterySo for the latest firmware requirement. How can we verify this? Mine was a late 2020 build, and the dealer state they don't do updates unless there is an issue (warranty claim).
