Another vote here for 4.88. It’s a steep price tag to just advance 1 step up of gear ratio then find out it isn’t quite enough when you get into the hills with that trailer. May be a little more than you need but it’ll get more done in the long run. And it’s only 1 time you have to justify it to the wife.

Most folks go up in tire size the next time they need tires too,

Agree to disagree type of thread 🤣🍿

It's either too deep or not worth it to goes just one size down. Just listen to the Jeep god and stay with the 4.10 lol.

Why not 4.88?

OP already has 4.10, so 100% chance that’s already done and they’re not very happy with it.
I first installed 5:13 gears with 37" tires, based on many posts online. It sucked I was in 8th gear at 45mph and my fuel mileage tanked. I wished I did 4:88 with the 37s. I ended up going up to 40" tires. It was way better, I actually gained 2 mpg going up to 40s. Better RPM range for the tire size. The 8 speed transmission makes these newer Jeeps allot different then the old JKs..

How bad was your MPG?

There are tons of people with 5.13 and 37s that don’t have the same experience you did. If you had 4.88 vs 5.13, it’s not going to make a big difference in MPG.

And what’s wrong with being in 8th at 45 mph? I have a stock 10 speed that’s in 10th at 50 mph. Doesn’t bother or worry me one bit.

I bought 2025 jeep gladiator rubicon x original 33” tires I added 2.5 inch lift and 35 inch tires. You all heard it before no more 8 th gear and gutless in deep snow. I was thinking 4:88 gearing. My future plan for the vehicle is pulling a 3000 lb trailer to off-road locations a commute from there on backroad trails. I do use this vehicle as my daily driver also. What are my fellow experienced jeep peeps thinking about gear choices or is mine about right?
I live in Colorado amd when I wore the OEM 33s on my '21 Mojave I did the AEV lift and went to 35s. I lost 8th gear and hardly ever saw 7th. I regeared to 4.88 and not only did I get 7th and 8th back, I picked up 1 mpg around town and 2 mpg on the highway. Daily drivability improved and the deeper gear help compensate for the altitude.

We still dont know if the OP has calibrated the computer or not. I know even with 4.10's it doesn't shift right and makes for a bad driving experience if its not calibrated. But once it is, the shift points are where they should be again.

Being in 8th by half the speed limit is ok... with a 10 speed. Kind of eliminates the point of 2 overdrives and 8 gears if you're in the top 1 99% of the time. Why anyone is gearing the 8 speed down to the point it drives like an old 4 speed with 1 overdrive is beyond me. At altitude gearing does nothing to compensate for the power loss. If that worked we could just use the 1st 4 gears and it would be good to go with stock gearing. The only thing that helps power loss is adding power. If you sirens a lot of time at altitude forced induction is the solution.

Let me please tag along..... so my sport s with stock 3.73 sounds useless! I put on slightly bigger than stock tires (33+) and an A.R.E cap. So 2 questions is it truly useless and WHY does Jeep sell such under geared vehicles ? My dealership said (I KNOW WHO LISTENS TO THEM) that with the new 8 speeds, regearing is not need like it previously was. Yes this was after I bought it.

The math is very simple. A tj or a jk with the auto had a 2.86 1st gear and 4.10s at best with 31s. Talk about under geared. You have the same final drive ratio with 3.73s if you take off in 2nd gear. Conversely in 1st gear you have the same ratio as a TJ with 6.13 axle gears. How is that under geared? Nobody was running gears that deep in a TJ for 35s and yet now everyone thinks they need even deeper gears than that? If you feel it doesn't pull hard enough in 1st gear then a regear can help. Being I'll bet that's not the case it simply won't. You have more gearing than any TJ or JK stock, and you have 100hp more than a TJ. Yes, we have a 1k pound disadvantage, but there's a reason why the gladiator is still significantly quicker than a TJ. Granted, we have 2 overdrives so being geared too low is much less of an issue.

I asked 1 because I know nothing about gears, 2 everyone on here recommends gearing. So if o went to 35s what would you recommend?

I always get a kick out of these gearing brainstorms.
I have a 2024 Mojave x on the stocks 33" Mt's and it rarely sees 8th on the highway at all. I'm only @ 1200' ASL. and I've run the tire pressure as low as 32 and as high as 40. it gets 15mpg in summer and 12. in winter. Not too sure how everyone gets 18 mpg @ 70mph .
These past 3 weeks it been dipping down to -30* C and the mileage is taking a royal beating, close to 8 mpg most days and the trans won't shift out of 5th @ 65 mph most days.
curious if that's a jeep thing or this turd is a total pile.
There are ppl wit Power wagons getting the same mileage and joy.
