I just completed my third fill up and it happened again.

I think you two are correct. The placement of the nozzle seems to be very sensitive. Certainly a safety hazzard, and not like any other vehcile I've ever owned (outside of said 2008 JK that was recalled over this same issue).

I suggest everyone who experiences this submit a case with the NHTSA (https://www.nhtsa.gov/report-a-safety-problem#index). There's no sense in just "dealing" with this - this is a brand new vehicle, it shouldn't burp gasoline. Hell, even used cars don't do that.

Thanks @JeepCares I'll PM you.
I will continue working with you there then! Thanks.

Took it in to the dealer, and they filled it up with gas and couldn't reproduce the issue. They then blamed it on the gas station.

This is entirely unacceptable. It's not like I'm filling up at some hole-in-the-wall place. This is a major gas station that I, with countless other people, have filled up who knows how many times. I've never had an issue with any of my other vehicles at this gas station, and yet the dealer just shrugs.

So much for Jeep-Caring.

I ran into the issue recently - one station. I thought, ok, I'm seeing what others are seeing. Went back to the other local stations, no troubles. It was just that one station. (and it was a name brand among stations here, not a foreign-owned vape, beer and gas store)
I've only had the issue at that one places so I can't say it's a truck issue in my case. Casey's, HyVee, WalMart, QuickTrip, etc. - no issues. But mine also always shuts off when there's still room for another 1 to 1.5 gallons)

Yeah, this was a QT I stopped at. The same QT I fill up all my other vehicles at, and have used for years without problems. Different pumps each time, but same station.

I'll try another station next time I need gas, but this is the auto world's equivalent of Steve Jobs telling people they're holding their phone wrong.

I'm going to use my phone to record the next time I fill up.

Maybe you're holding your hand wrong? it feels threatened?
Those having this issue remind me of filling up my cars - rear tank, rear fill tube, direct shot to the tank. You listen very closely for a key sound, stand back and slowly stop the nozzle. If you just STOP it or let it kick off you'd better not be wearing your Sunday best or headed to your best friend's wedding. But stop it slowly, no issues.
Those were always an issue and worse of an issue today because the pumps and nozzles seem to behave a lot differently.
But it should not be an issue with these new vehicles. I can fill my wife's WK2 and let the nozzle stop on its own and rarely can I get more than another .25 gallons in it. It's very well done/designed. No kick-back of fuel and when the nozzle says it's full, it's full - and it's a Jeep product. My WJ never had any issue (granted, pre-so many evaporative emissions things)

Bottom line - I'm not impressed with the tank design or the fill design. It's an anomaly in the Jeep world, IMO.

I've only had it spill fuel once, and that was after I first got it. I only gas up at the local Sam's Club, unless I'm traveling. They remodeled it a few months ago, replaced all the pumps and added two additional on the empty island. These all have the new style emissions captive nozzles. They don't seem to go far enough into the neck, but they work with no issues and no blow-back or spilling. Once they shut off, I can't get more than a half gallon additional in.

Mine has just over 3000 miles and has done it since new, at various gas stations. Going in to the dealer tomorrow. We will see.

First fill up the other day and it happened to me. Burped raw fuel all down the side and on to the ground. ⛽

Mine's new as well. Filled up once on the way home and it worked fine. 2nd fill up around my house and it squirted all over the side of the fender. I hope this doesn't become a regular occurance. My '07 Colorado does this and it's infuriating. Nothing like getting in my brand new vehicle smelling like fuel.

I had it happen ONE time in my 1.5 years of ownership - and that was at a station I don't normally use. Interesting, at least to me, that it seemed to be more related to the pump/station than the truck. No other station I've used did that.

Applying the troubleshooting process to this issue (at least for me and my observations) reveals that it absolutely can not be a result of an issue at the station. I have been filling up at this station for for over thirty-five years, but that is besides the point. The current pumps have been installed for at least 5 years and over multiple fill-ups with multiple vehicles (Jeep WK, Mazda 3, BMW E46) I have never had a spill at this station, or any of the others I sometime use for that matter. The first time I fill up the JT this happens. Sure it can be an anomaly and I will be keeping track on future fill ups but looking at it and asking what has changed points directly to something with the JT's ability to intake fuel.

What is interesting is that these are some of the SLOWEST pumps around and knowing about this thread in advance I made sure to fill up there and let it stop itself just to see. Well I saw--Fuel all down the bedside, fender and ground.

I have been using the paper towels at the gas station and shove them around the nozzle so I don't get gas all over the side....towels catch the splash back and it's every time I fill up.

That's a good tip.
I wonder......why in over 17,000 miles has mine done it only one time and that 1 time was at a station my truck has been to.....one time? And I am one to not stop - I often set it again to get more in.
