The only longevity I'm really worried about is the EcoDiesel and the frame, to be honest. Everything on/in a Jeep is serviceable imo. Transfer case blows? Put in another. Axle breaks? Stronger parts. Wheel bearings live 50% of their expected life because I put 37s on it? Whatever.

I sold my first TJ and regretted it until I got another. I'll never sell it. I didn't know if I'd feel the same way about the JT or not, but so far... Yeah, it's not going anywhere.

Same thoughts. I give my frame a healthy dose of Fluid Film and CRC 656 marine. Use it from new and you will never have rust. I guess in a few years I'll track down another motor for a spare for 10-15 years from now.

I’ll have it at least 6 years. That’s the minimum intended service life for any vehicle we buy. We can’t currently afford to own or maintain more than 2 vehicles (daily drivers) so I’ll have to see what the situation looks like 4 years from now - we’re already two years into ownership.

That all being said, this is the 7th vehicle I’ve ever owned and I truly enjoy it in a way I never have with previous vehicles. If the 6-year clock runs out and it’s still going strong, I’ll just keep going with it until it becomes unreliable or miserable to daily drive.

It does, however, have me thinking about a small “forever” 2-door 4x4 somewhere down the road if I ever have the money and space for it.

The biggest hurdle to me declaring this a “forever” vehicle is the size. At some point, I expect it will become too unreliable to be a daily driver anymore, and when that happens, it may be too big to keep as a third vehicle.

My 8-yr old daughter says she wants it when she turns 16… Either I’ll have already sold it due to unreliability or I’ll still own it and want to keep it. She’s not getting daddy’s truck. ?

I was thinking the same thing about a spare 3.6. I figured I’d just buy a new block and heads, then build it with better quality components as a fun project. Is there an amount of time a newly built engine can sit without running, with gratuitous assembly lube? Meaning could it potentially sit for years?

We had a 302 short block wrapped in plastic and in a shed on a stand for 10-12 years before pulling it out and putting it in a CJ. All we did was clean it up, fresh oil, install and go. It’s sold now and still running fine 10 years later.

Driving it until the wheels fall off...then replace anything that needs replacing (if we can still get parts by then) and keep going :rock::rock:

Jeeps hit a point where value hits a level and will stay there. I have my 2nd TJ 06 its the wife's daily driver. Would still have the first one if it was not totaled. I plain to keep this one a long time. I do worry that al the electronics will be it's downfall at some future date.

Agree. This will likely be the eventual downfall. As mentioned earlier, most stuff can be replaced and upgraded. Chasing electrical demons can be much more difficult.

5 years. I love my JTRD but I'm down in South Padre Island, TX and everything goes to rust pretty quickly. Doesn't help I'm on the beach several times a week.
