How long do you plan to keep your current truck? As much as it costs (and how much I love it) Forever
Are you making mods based on that decision? Yep

And further, what is the lift/tire size on your rig? 3 1/2 " - 37" MT's

I was looking through the builds and rigs and "what did you do" threads and enjoying the general mods across the board. As I look at these, I typically think I like that but wouldn't do it, or I want to do that, or ew I'll never do that. In any of those cases, I'm evaluating against my own plans. It occurs to me as I look at some mods and I consider the maintenance costs that will go with it, that a big part of my build plans is longevity. To that end, I'm curious...

(Personally, I'm not interested in 37" tires and 4" lifts because they will put more wear and tear on the vehicle aside from being parts that have regular costly expenses.)
I'm planning on keeping my Overland for at least 10 years. Whenever the repair costs are a significant percentage of a car payment, it's usually time to get a new one...

My Overland is factory standard, no lift, regular tires. 99% of the time, I'm on the highway or streets, so that's a good choice.

After the warranty's over, I might consider some mods, but nothing for now. I added some stickers, some Mopar hand grips so the girls could get into the seats, nothing major.

We are stuck with each until the end. I got rear ended as soon I got it causing damage to the bed panel , tailgate and bumper. No dimished value since I was hit by an illegal. I'm ok with it though.

With a heavily modified JK new 2016 I waited until the diesel Gladiator became available. Order it 8/8/20 now getting ready to start the ordering for the new modifications. The JK I will remove what I can and reuse or sell. My experience has been to build and enjoy while owning instead of piece by piece and never getting what you wanted before you move on the the next project.

Me?

How Long - Minimum 10 years, expect more like 15 years before I change vehicles.
Mods - All "upgrades" are intended for longevity, keeping it as healthy as long as possible... bigger tires for utility without being too stressful.

Lift - No more than 1.5" lift planned with the intent of never needing to modify suspension geometry
Tires - Currently 33", no plan to go bigger than 35" but really don't want anything wider than 295mm (about 11.5")
Part of the stable so will keep it long-term or forever swap other cars out more frequently
In the process
Overlander back rig
Kc hilites
Winch
New 35s
And other bits here and there.

Enjoy the process and upgrades especially as other 4x4 will be left 100% stock

Since I estimate i'll have $100-120k into this thing before long, i'm keeping it till the wheels fall off!

Keeping mine until it comes with a v8.
Yeah, really a V8 in the current or new chassis would be tempting. It looks literally plug and play based on swaps by America's Most Wanted 4x4 but the cost of entry is prohibitive. A factory option would make a lot of sense.

I ordered a rivian and a cybertruck. When they’re finally on the road I’ll pick one and trade my model Y.

electric is definitely superior but the batteries aren’t where I need them to be to head out into the middle of nowhere
Hopefully batteries catch up soon, apparently no new gas or diesel vehicles after 2035 in California. I wouldn't mind the jump to electric if it has capable range.

That is a good thing, then we won't have to visit California and spend our money there anymore.

Pretty sure no one was forcing you to in the first place? No one said you had to stop driving gas vehicles, they just won't be selling new ones.

I think that's a pretty amazing announcement. I'm all for letting oil/gas go the way of the... er... dinosaurs.

I'll be happy with it as long as the tech catches up with gas convenience, but then again I can always keep a gas vehicle until it does, just can't buy new.

Same here, provided that there is infrastructure to support electric vehicles. My fear, as a guy that likes to explore long range off of the beaten path, is that the "fuel" range, and convenience to refuel/recharge, just won't be able to stack up to gas/diesel within the next decade or two. If recharge stations become as plentiful, and as quick, as gas stations, I'm all for it though.
