Absolutely not. I wanted a record of the memberships opinion of a 4 cylinder gladiator before stellantis goes down that road.

A diesel, without all the emissions crap, would be good. I would like to see just a plain, simple, small V8 with a eight or ten speed automatic transmission.
Nail, meet head.

5.7 V8, even an MDS one, as long as there's a physical button to deactivate it right next to the start/stop button :D

If the 4cyl delivered good power like Chevys 2.7 Turbomax at 310hp and 430lbft of torque, why not…
That's what I say. If it delivers the power I don't care what engine it has. If it's OEM, the mfg is willing to throw a powertrain warranty behind it, it has to be at least marginally reliable. Would definitely be a better powertrain than the ole Pentastar.

51k miles in and I couldn’t care less about fuel efficiency in a pickup truck, even when I was commuting 80 miles a day round trip.

However, I get some people are very conscious of it. For me, if I wanted good fuel mileage, I wouldn’t have even considered a JT or Wrangler. I would’ve went with a Subaru Cross Trek, Ford Maverick, or something like that.

If I was a hotshot driver or something then I would care about fuel mileage, but not for a lifestyle/adventure vehicle. I’m more concerned with range, and that can be solved with good trip planning and/or jerry cans.
Agreed. I just don’t know if the JT augments my existing lifestyle or just makes it more expensive. ?

What other truck can be on 37’s and do this on Friday (60 miles round trip):

Get groceries on Saturday, drive you 200 miles at 80mph and then do things like this:

200 miles back home at 80mph and be back at work Monday like nothing happened. I’ll wait.

I got an average of 22mpg this weekend combined, that’s just a bonus to the crazy torque in the ecodiesel… I don’t think there is a better combination of power plant and midsize truck out there right now.

Stellantis already knows our opinions on the issue. It is only one of a myriad of factors affecting the direction they take. The biggest factors are governmental regulations and mandates. The only hope for changing those is a change in administration at the top levels.

I said no. As others have said, if it can have the output of the Duramax 2.7, then yes. I tow a camper with my Overland and the 3.6L does an adequate job. Any little four banger just won't cut it.

Sure hemi swap is the way to go…. ??‍♂ will never understand a v8 swap in jeeps…. But then again I try to maintain 300+ miles of off road range and v8 folks don’t care that they get 150-200 miles of off road range. Suppose this comes down to “where” you off road.

I plan on going 392 hemi. I already have a sub 300 mile range with 37s off highway. I'm at the point where more power at a lower RPM might actually net me better mpg city and highway with an eco minded use of the skinny peddle. I already carry 10 gal of spare gas to combat my range issue. I'm also considering a long range america aux tank to try and get some balance bias that will be lost to putting a heavier engine up front. As long as the final curb weight is good bit lighter than a Raptor R, I'm sure i can get a shock and coil combo that will make my Mojave still feel like it did stock, albeit a LOT faster. A hemi will add 160lbs to the front, and a longe range tank will add about 180 ish full. tbh not as extreme as i thought is would be. But enough that'll be a trick to get it dialed. I think some custom tuned accutune FOX 2.5s and maybe dual rate standard weight coil will be the place to start.

I would prefer a V8.
My 2011 Dodge with a hemi consistently got better gas mileage than my 2021 Gladiator with a Pentastar

If you compare a Pentastar Ram to a Hemi Ram, the Pentastar supposedly gets slightly better MPG.

There’s no replacement for displacement.

The only thing I’m jealous of is the sound of my buddy's 5.7 RAM. I want that
I've had three of those. The 6.4 in my 2500 tow beast is even better. But, in relation to this thread, and living and traveling above 4,000 feet almost always, I am always aware, at least in my mind, of the loss of power at altitude with a non-aspirated engine. And so, under the right circumstances... I'm open to the theme of this thread.

I've had three 5.7 hemis in 1500's since 2013. I used to have to travel and rent a vehicle for about a week and usually got a 1500 if at all possible like 10 times total. (The trick is to rent the cheapest poopbox and then when you get there they give you a truck cheap if you ask).

So, anyway a few times I had the Pentastar with 4WD for a week with lots of highway driving and city driving. I remember hitting close to 22 mpg with the Pentastars a couple of trips with mostly highway driving while still having a surprising amount of get up and go. I decided if I wasn't towing I personally could live with that no problem. I even looked at some quad cab "classic" Warlocks with the Pentastar before deciding on a Gladiator as my daily driver. There were a few pretty loaded 23's in the 38/39K range here a few months ago. Whereas my Hemi's seldom saw 18 mpg even under the best conditions here in MT. And towing was single digits generally.

I'm hitting 19's close to 20 in my Gladiator on long highway trips regularly at 4 to 6000 feet altitude and 87 octane. I think the Rams with that bigger ZF tranny do better than the boxes that are Gladiators... AND, I know at about 8 to 10K miles it will likely get even better as the engine totally settles in. I traded in a 2018 Renegade daily driver with a 2.4 Tigershark (great MT car by the way) and it was almost always stuck at 21.1 or 2 all the time at about 50/50 highway/city.

Disclaimer: This is all lieometer observations.
