I Just purchased an Overland, my first Jeep since my 2006 LJ and the and I’m already looking for things for it like I did back in the TJ days.
my truck didn’t come with the Trail Rail system, is it something that would be good to get? Is there a lot of add ons that can mount to it or is it just for tie downs?
I also want a bed cover and read the rails can be an issue there too.
thanks for the input!
Pay days tomorrow so I’m looking to spend lol.

Of all the stuff you can get I'd get that. It's a truck and the bed is kind of the point. Everything out there revolves around having that it seems.

I think that is a very good idea, I went with stainless stell unistrut, and drilled it and mounted myself, you can mount other things like an air compressor or shovels on it also.....Jack

I'll be going the Unistrut route after I get the spray-in liner done. I found a place online that sells the solid P1000 strut cut to size. With the solid strut you can drill your mounting holes where they need to be. With some black wrinkle spray paint they should look great. With the nut plates there is no end to the stuff you can mount to it.

If they sold them individually maybe. I only use one of the three. Go with the DIY ones others mentioned and just do the ones you see using. I didn't mount the front one in the end. I find the rings at the bottom of the bed sides to be more useful to tie things down as the rails are usually too high for most things I have needed to tie down. I just installed a folding bed cover yesterday and now find the rails less accessible, but still usable. HTH

Kind of funny this necro's back. Just used mine to secure a big ass couch and love seat. With out them I'd feel significantly less secure in carrying a 9 foot sofa and love seat as i'd be lacking tie downs. I use an access roll up so it mounts a little screwy to the rails but they still work as i need them and provide me valuable utility.

that said, the DIY's would work just as well if not better.

This is what I ended up with. I bought some solid Unistrut, cut it to length and drilled the holes where they needed to be. Some wrinkle paint and there you go. The anchors are nothing more than hardware store eyebolts, Unistrut nuts and washers. Works great and half the price of the factory system.

If I were to do it again this would be the gameplan because I need the rail to protrude beyond the bedside for my cap brackets. I thought the rail system would be like the Tacoma where you can insert cleats anywhere with a 90 degree turn but it's not and it's a huge turnoff for me at the price.

Yea, the beauty of this set up is all you have to do is loosen the jam nuts and you can move those anchors wherever you need them. Also with those nut plates you can bolt literally anything to it. I'm getting ready to put a NATO gas can carrier on it.

Look in the Vendor Market Forum. MACS Tie Down System. If I didn't already have the Builtright system I would go with that. Nothing wrong with Builtright just that they have never come out with tie down attachments for their system like they had mentioned they would be. So we are left to us after market stuff we come up with or from things used on Toyota's, etc
