hello all

two days ago I was extremely fortunate to be out walking my new puppy when I saw my Jeep pass by down the street between two buildings.
fortunately it's such a bright color and so highly modified it that I recognized it out of my peripheral vision and looked up and managed to verify not only that it was in fact Nacho.Diesel but I also observed the driver and another vehicle closely following it. I immediately called 911, the officers arrived in just a few minutes and in working with some federal agencies and the power of social media, the Jeep was located and seized from the thieves just as it was entering Mexico approximately 40 minutes later.

I was asked not to add many more details as there will be legal proceedings BUT what I can say is the thieves broke out my d side window, climbed over to passenger compartment and accessed the terminal behind the glovebox to make a new key. I don't know approximately how long it took for this to happen but I do know the Jeep was seen still parked approximately 30 minutes before I saw it driving by.

I have been splitting my time since dealing with the incredible officers dealing with my situation, getting glass replaced and doing a ton of research between short anxiety filled naps where I make myself get up and go check on the Jeep. I am looking for any and all ideas on how to both electronically and mechanically deter theft.

For my own anxiety's sake and for the rest of our incredible community, please toss in ideas or any experience with things you've tried or heard about

TIA

Lots of threads. Obviously having a hood lock wouldn't have helped you and only prevents people from stealing a battery.

Damn, sorry to hear but glad you were aware of your surroundings enough to notice your truck driving buy.

For the time being a simple kill switch may have stopped them from taking your truck plenty of threads on the forum.

Of course a CAN buss imobilizer might be much better but you can't beat the kill switch for ease of install and use.

Again good your OK, and minimal damage to your truck hope you can get it up and running soon.

if i may do a little spit balling.... if you mounted a motion activated camera of the underside of the roll bar could it be linked to your phone? it would need to be adjusted to only pickup activity inside the cab to avoid external input. it could be linked to an additional horn/alarm but who pays attention to those anymore? and perhaps a couple apple air tag devices. i realize this will not stop a thief but would provide an immediate heads up. just thinking out loud. now if you are 10' feet and bullet proof you could confront the perps.

Does Jeep offer a locked RF hub for Gladiator the way they do other cars? You have to buy new keys and a new RF hub - but this completely defeats the STAR connector trick.

This sucks! But at least you got it back. Lots of time, effort and money in that rig. What part of SD are you in?

Wondering if locking the glovebox adds a few more minutes of protection?

The camera idea will only work if the camera has WIFI access. The truck would need to be near you house WIFI or connected to WIFI in a parking garage (it it exists).

Uconnect & airtags do the same thing - to help locate the truck after its stolen.
