There have been article that the manual was going away completely from all vehicles. I think the only manual mid sized truck will be the Tacoma now and for cars it is probably the Subaru WRX and the BRZ which is also the Toyota FRS. Odd they are saying the V6 Wrangler next year will only be manual and wonder if really only auto and the journalist have it backwards?
On jeeps site they have the manual up for order in the configurator with the v6. The auto option is only available for the v4 turbo. Real tired of these manufacturers opting for the turbo 4 bangers but i digress… However, in the gladi’s case they only raised base price by like $200 for auto standard which is interesting but I still dislike the move to remove the manual from here out. I pray they offer special edition manuals in the future or limited runs of diesels but I know its unlikely…

I only know what I’ve read. Not sure I’ve seen 8 speed ( or higher) manuals.
Semis have more, but most people won't have that opportunity.

1. Buy 2024 manuals, multiple trim levels.
2. Store them for a year.
3. ????
4. Profit!
I also thought I should trade in my 2022 for a 2024 to have the last MT edition. Then I thought I should just get a 2024 and mothball it until my 2022 dies. Then I told my wife both ideas and it appears I will be spending the night in my 2022.

I love manual transmissions. Every Jeep I've ever owned has been a manual up until the current JL Rubicon diesel and JT Sport diesel. I drove a manual 3.6 in each before committing to the diesel. The 3.6 with the AL6 just kind of sucks. Each are good in certain applications, but pairing them together in a Jeep makes for a lackluster combo. I said I'd never own an automatic Jeep, yet here I am with two autos.

Autos today are not the autos we grew up with. They are actually better than the manuals. The 3.6 is mediocre at best in a Jeep, and an AL6 doesn't make it any better. The diesel is gone for the US market. It's all just a part of fossil fuels going extinct. And all transmissions will go the way of the dodo. Enjoy what you've got while you can. We will all be driving glorified golf carts soon.

So you are right about the auto vs manual but wrong about the diesel. Jeep abandoned the diesel only in the North American market but it still thrives everywhere else in the world for 2024 and 2025, even Europe where the clean diesel standards are higher than ours. The US diesel was dropped due to excessive warranty issues due to various failures especially the DEF and DPF systems and turbos. I am one of the unlucky ones, two turbos, and now two DPF systems, the latest last week where the failure of the DPF was caused by the failure of some gasket so it was no covered under warranty and cost me $4K to repair and 4 days of down time. Then the next day every idiot light came one again, limp mode, white smoke pouring out the back and boom, it died. Sitting at another dealer now and they said it's major but can't figure out what yet. Anyway talked to two different sales managers now that told me that 2026 was the last year for the JT so buy one while you can.

I suspect EPA, and mileage mandates have more to do with going auto only. If I recall correctly even Porsche is going all auto.
I have always got better fuel economy with a manual. The gearing in the automatics has changed over the years and that has improved the mpg. I still think a manual transmission in our Jeeps would still be better than an auto transmission Jeep. Someone out there has one of each and could give a better answer.

I think Jeep embarrassed themselves with the clutch failures and the diesel fuel pumps and it is their way of fixing a problem. Make it go away.

If they had bothered to actual put a decent manual in these trucks then I’d see this as a loss. They didn’t, so I don’t.

I prefer to row my own but chose the auto in this platform because it performs better.

I have the same pump on my Duramax. Bosch sold a product to the American market and it has reports of thousands of failures. You would think Bosch would be held accountable. I would also think that the manufactures would also lean on Bosch. They have known about the diesel fuel differences for 20+ years. Yet Bosch kept selling the CP4 to the American markets.

Well…I was planning on either another Gladiator if the hurricane came out with a manual OR if they brought back Gobi I’d trade mine for a fresh manual unit in the color I really wanted to begin with.

Now they have lost my business for good. Just like Corvette did with the no manual in the C8…I’ll never be a buyer.

Guess I’m keeping my 2021 Rubi 6MT for the long haul. Sad really.

I didn't say they abandoned the diesel everywhere. But, you are wrong in that regard. The diesel is not thriving everywhere. It is being dropped in markets everywhere. Even Germany, home of Rudolf Diesel himself, saw the last year of the diesel JT/JL in 2023. It's also absent in most of South America now. The change has nothing to do with warranty issues. The engine is still offered in other vehicles the world over. It got dropped in the JT/JL because of the impending PHEV options. It makes zero business sense to offer two expensive engine upgrades. It's just not financially viable.

I had the same thought. We previously had two other Gladiators (2021 red diesel auto, 2023 black gas manual), I sold both and went backwards in model year to get my current truck (2020 Gobi gas manual). That's how important having the exact color, trim, and trans was for me.

As an aside, it's interesting to see folks in these types of threads describe any of that stuff as objectively better or worse. Guess I have always been squarely in the, "drive what makes you happy" camp. I would assume the majority of us aren't driving these things around to put smiles on other people's faces.

I had to do a nation wide search to find my manual Rubi leftover 23 with the options I wanted and still didn’t get the color I wanted and matching fender flares. I will keep this for a while, but I will likely go to a Wrangler after this if auto’s are the only choice. All well. I was probably going to do that anyway. I love the convenience of the bed, but the extra weight of the bed seems to make the 3.6 underpowered and use more gas.
