The only reason I mention max tow in my posts is because of the wide track axles. It’s important in threads about wheel choice.

it’s also important because for people shopping for a sport. there two tow packages for the sport and I’d hate to see a guy not get what he thought he was getting.

anoth thing to keep in mind when buying parts... the rear axle shafts are unique to this model( found that out first hand) And for after market steering links you’d probably need rubicon length.

Good price for a base Rubicon. I felt like I got the best bang for my buck with a Max Tow. I got a 2021 Sport S, Max Tow, Power Windows/Locks, Cold Weather Group, 8.4" Screen, Alpine Radio, Hard Top, and All Weather floormats for $38,500.

I had a JKU and then a JKUR before and found out the trails that I enjoy most never really needed lockers - the Brake lock system took care of it just fine. So with the JT, the 4.10 gears is what I was most after.

......max tow
I'm the little brother Sport same color/transmission with base spec of Tint and Sirius 33500.
I was told tow rating is under 4k due to 6sp.
If jeep offered a sport with 4.10s and a manual I would have bought that. I had decided against the rubicon on price but it was the only way to get those 2 options from the factory, and coming with 33s and the upgraded head unit meant there was nothing I needed to do. When I need tires I may pick up 35s but I'm very happy with this truck as-is

I just look at configurer and only the Rubicon and Mojave are the only 2 with manual at 4:10 a. What a bummer. The add axle length doesn't hurt either bum way too much $$ for me.

Thank god I wasn't in to max tow as it can and should easily pull Yamaha SX190. My 2000 TJ could but wasn't ideal.

Seems we got the worst deals out here in SoCal around October. Any Sport S MaxTow you can find under 45K had either been added $10K worth of dealer accessories or was already spoken for by the time we got there. Rubicon and Mojave were strictly sticker - no budging on price except for the $3K discount, so 54K-76K. Finally settled on our MaxTow that sat around at a Santa Monica dealer because someone changed their mind and/or otherwise backed-out. Best I could get was $1K more for my trade, free spray-on bedliner, and $2K off for it being old inventory. Probably paid about $5K more for not waiting, but could have probably ordered one for around same price (but a long wait to get it - they were saying 6+months at the time (covid concerns).
Yeah, whatever, happy now - can't put a price on recreation! ?

Oh, and to the OP: Yes, MaxTow is an option package, just like Rubicon and Mohave are option packages - except you get a sticker I'd probably peel off anyway, LOL. Rubicon rubicon rubicon!
Our deal really fell into place. Black Friday pricing on top of November Rebates. Someone custom ordered one and then changed their mind on seat color so there was an extra custom order coming in which was exactly what we wanted. There's a lot more to the story, but we feel like the dealer really took care of us and we got really good value for our dollar. :like:

Watching the market since then, the same build is going for low to mid $40s. Heck, most used JT's with less features are more than we paid for ours new.

There's also an older Jeep model with a Max tow package. So when you tell people you have a Max tow you don't need to specify you have a Gladiator: Gladiator enthusiasts know.

Saw so many with black leather seats (no bueno in CA for a convertible!) and the pointless 20” rims looking for a curb to scrape themselves on. ?
One had a 5” lift and 26” ORANGE wheels. For $15K extra. W.T.F.

I just saw this article and it is from 2019 from a Jeep Gladiator and Wrangler JL engineer. Make fun of the small tires, make fun of the plastic fender wings (air dam), make fun of the plastic "skid plate" (its actually an air dam), and make fun of the designation as a Max Tow. There is a reason for all of it, yes it is a special trim level and yes it deserves a hood sticker :) . Yes it is an engineering feat and shows how committed Fiat/Jeep is to keeping the Gladiator similar to the wrangler and yet a best in class midsize pickup. Jeep wanted the Gladiator to come out of the gate as a real pickup that was top of the pack for towing and still a wrangler looking convertible.

The file is too big but go read Jalopnik
The Engineering Behind the Jeep Gladiator's Tow Rating, and Why the Diesel Will Tow Less

Because it’s a $1400 option that gives you 4.10s, wider axles, 240 amp alternator, heavier duty brakes, trac lok anti spin differential, and heavier duty engine cooling.

....so yea, that’s why we mention it haha.

I think the brakes are the same for all models

I'm now in the process of having my non max tow re-geared and it will cost a bit more than the max tow package just for that (although I am going to 4.88's) so max tow is definitely a bargain.

Yea you might be right on the brakes being the same because I didn’t notice any difference when driving a non-Max tow. I guess they just list that on the website for selling tactics or something.

4.88s will be nice. You going 37s or even bigger?

The options with a Max Tow package have just as much impact as those on a Rubicon or Mojave and I believe are important for planning future modifications.

For instance, when I mentioned in an earlier thread my desire to install a Rubicon suspension I learned that the Max Tow has unique rear springs with better load capacity and installing Rubicon springs would adversely effect that.

I have always wanted Jeep to option a base Wrangler Sport with Rubicon running gear for those of us that actually use our Jeeps off road and did not want all the expensive foo foo stuff to go with it.
In the JT the Max Tow package comes pretty darn close to doing that.

It's as close to having a Rubicon without having paid 60k+. A rubi is a lil more capable due to locking diffs and sway bar disconnect, but to me, that's all the rubi has over the max tow. Trak loc has been great for me so far. So for us max tows, it's like emphasizing rubi. We kno its not, but pretty close in my opinion
Agree on the Track Loc, except the only way to get it to do it's job is to turn off the annoying as all hell and worthless traction control.

Isn't the transfer case on the Rubicon geared lower too?
