So realistically you shouldnt tow anything over 5k lbs (dry weight)GVW = Gross Vehicle Weight, meaning how much weight can be on the 4 tires of the Jeep.
GCWR = Gross Combined weight Rating, meaning how much total weight Jeep and Trailer can pull.
Typically the trailer weight is just a marketing combination with the heaviest trailer you can town in a perfect setup (180# driver, no passengers/load, ect....). Its usually very difficult to have the perfect setup.
For instance, if you fully load the jeep down and with all your passengers, gear, gas, ect... it weight 5500 lbs, and the GVW = 6250, you only have 750 LBS of tongue weight from the trailer that you could add before you are over the GVW. HOWEVER, the GCWR for a max tow is only 12,800, so your 5500lb jeep plus a 7500 lb trailer put you at 14,000, over your limit.
Just need to be mindful of what the bodies and things in the vehicle weigh. So realistically you shouldnt tow anything over 5k lbs (dry weight)
Exactly. Curb weight of the Gladiators is 4650-5050. Even with a 200# driver, puts you at 4850. a 7650# trailer puts you at 765#s tongue weight if loaded right, so your payload is at 965, gvwr at 6015.Just need to be mindful of what the bodies and things in the vehicle weigh.
If you have a Max Tow with 1,600 payload capacity, and you're taking 750lbs tongue weight from a trailer, you still have 800-something pounds of payload remaining. Two people without much stuff in the vehicle, and you're fine. Four adults, with a bed full firewood, a generator, and gas? You're probably over.
These ratings are also for the 245 70 tires that they come with even 35” drops that rating dramatically and any incline it would be a total dog!Exactly. Curb weight of the Gladiators is 4650-5050. The Max tow has a higher rating than the Rubicon not because it's stronger, but because it shaved a few pounds and is lighter.4650 Curb Weight, 200#driver, and 7650 trailer puts you at 12,500#s, 300# under the GCWR.
Again, not likely to hit that "perfect" scenario, but it is possible. Start modifying the jeep, adding weight, moving things around, ect.... and all that goes out the window. LEGALLY the GCWR and trailer rating numbers to decrease (just like adding air bags and stuff doesn't increase it legally), but common sense tells you a jeep on 37's with 2000#s of overlanding gear can't tow as much as a bone stock jeep off the lot...
Our rubicon has a 7000 lb towing capacity, but with the bed loaded up with camping stuff, we feel it’s true capacity at any speed or incline is around 4k. Our trailer fully loaded would be 3,300lbs with 300lb tongue weight. It does it easily. We would not expect 7000 lbs of trailer to work very well though. So realistically you shouldnt tow anything over 5k lbs (dry weight)
