Mods: Regrets and Required

Don't have a lot of mods yet but my Tazer was #1 must have if only for it turning off the license plate lights when you go into reverse. Who ever thought pointing the license plate lights directly at the camera so all you see is bright blinding light whenever you back up at night needs to be fired.

Was it those specific nerf bars or just in general? Either way, interested in knowing what didn’t workout with them? Wasn’t looking at that specific brand but just in general.

Regret: DV8 Offroad Rock Slider steps. These things might be fine in the South, but up North they are not ready for the salt and got rusty a few months after I installed them. They also fill with mud and have no way to clean them out unless you have a u shaped sprayer.

Did they charge you to remove the factory ppf on the front fenders first? The rear just has a square, but unless something changed, my 20 overland fronts were fully wrapped, you could see the seams at the very edges.

Regret the volant intake I was given. When it warms up again I'm throwing the stock back on.

My rubicon only had the partial squares on the back fenders. It is a 2022.

Mods that are a must

Cover the bed, and get a rack. Few choices for both. I went with the softopper and Datin Fab rack. Love both.

Winch is a must. You wouldn’t drive without insurance, and that’s what a winch is.

Awning. I love the Darche 270° batwing, and get more use out of it than anything else besides the softopper.

Seat covers. From a day at the beach, to overlanding across Arizona/Utah, rarely are the coolest places to explore, the cleanest.

If my Jeep disappeared tomorrow and I got a new one I would immediately:

• put on a front bumper, the big steel one I now have has already saved me thousands from a deer hit.
• winch (used for all sorts of things not just recovery)
• Hike-IT throttle controller, so worth the money to be able to adjust the crappy gas pedal
• cover the bed
• sound insulation for hard top if you don't get the factory ones.
• better wheels from someone upgrading (I snagged some launch edition ones for my overland)
• Amazon roll bar hand grips for above every door except driver

Everything listed here cost far less than $2500 and was worth it.

Killed mpg, I like on base so like 5 min drive to work, after I put it on my mpg went from about 16-18 down to 13 ish
Sound was cool for like 5 min. But doing multiple long distance drives it gets annoying.

Thanks for the info. Most discuss minimal to no performance gains with CAI. Just cool sound. I hadn’t heard much on the decreased fuel efficiency.

Regret: none thus far, I research all of my parts and make sure I really need it and find the best quality for long term. This forum is the best for researching parts - unbiased opinions without marketing gimmicks.

2 things I couldn't live without: my Alu-Cab bed cap. Yes, it adds weight, but I have so much room to put stuff in, whether it is on the trail, or just going to the hardware store, I have a covered space for my junk. Second; it's not necessarily a jeep part, but a pressure washer to keep your jeep clean and rust free. I have a 1600 psi whatever from Home Depot, and I use it all the time. In Colorado they put all types of crap on the road that will eat your chassis up. Whatever you end up putting on, taking care of those parts are key to longevity and functionality.

So, I'm new to Jeeps as a whole. Back when i couldn't afford anything I just wheeled old used Toyotas and built em out of FB marketplace second hand parts. Now I got a brand new jeep. Its a blast to wheel and is mind blowing what it can do stock. But as we all know, nothing is stock forever. With that as the theme, What was a mod you utterly regret doing and what was one that you will always do everytime you get a new rig?

A mod with regrets..... We did a stubby antenna on my wife's first JK. Stupid and useless mod if you ever use the radio.

Favorite mod.....tires always tires. Get those pumpkins up higher from the ground, the looks help too

I'd have to say no big regrets so far. I like to do a lot of research on here, YouTube, wherever I can find good info, and when I find info on something I make sure to get multiple sources, because a lot of sources are typically biased based off of their sponsorship or whatever.

That being said, I love the AEV lifts we have on both JT's (wife's Willys 2.5" and my Mojave 2").
We also love and see a big difference with our seat jackers, it helps make you feel like you're not gonna slide off the front of your seat lol, and definitely helps your back.
And ppl are gonna roast me hard, but we love both of our Oracle taillights. However, I used a rubber seal around the edges of them to help prevent moisture and premature failure. (so, we'll see how they hold up).

We obviously have much more done to them, but I suppose that's the stuff ppl care about. lol
