If I'm not mistaken the spine count on the ring and pinon is to match the driveshaft yoke and the spine count on the LSD is to match the axle shafts.
You would be correct.

People start threads that are incorrect all the time. Nothing new.
But anyways. I see what you are talking about. You are talking about the spline count on the pinion. Lockers or LDS's dont care about spline count on the pinion. They only care about the gear ratio and if they are compatible. 3.73 is typically the brake over. The carrier is either 3.55 and lower or 3.73 and up. So you should be looking for a LDS that will work with your gear ratio and axle spline count. Not pinion spline.
Good to have clarified! Thanks. I actually asked Google this, but it seemed to lead me the other way…
Thanks!

I sight like this is exactly why I wanted to start this thread.
This should add clarity to my search.

Thank you.

Is this what you're looking for?

The ring and pinion you referenced earlier will fit the LSD referenced here. Pinion spline count isn't usually referenced because it doesn't change. An M220 D44 should always be a 28 spline pinion. You Would buy an M220 gear set of whatever ratio you want and it mounts to the carrier (LSD/Locker) which are 32 spline for a JT, M220 D44. You can upgrade to a 35 spline but you might as well go to a D60 at that point. Your pinion gears are the weak link in these differentials and a 35 spline axle shaft and carrier would be wasted money in my opinion.

better brakes, steel knuckles, stronger front housing,
Just to avoid confusion for some kid looking for information in 20 years - all JT's have the same brakes (at least 2020-2025's, the 4xe's probably won't), all JT's have the same front housings, steel knuckles are only found on Mojave's and Diesel rubicons.

Rubicon axles are a bit wider, include lockers, and have 4.10 gears (if factory).

Do the wide and narrow axles use the same front housing?

yes

Unless its diesel. Then a Rubicon diesel would have 3.73 gears factory.

Yes. Its still a D44.
also I guess we should toss the high altitudes in there too, they get wide axles and 3.73’s 🤓

I know that Eaton makes a compatible lsd that works with non rubicon axles. I called them personally and was about to go that route before the ox lockers. I think Yukon also makes a unit that works but I’m not 100% sure. I have 5.13 gears and they both said their lsd would work with my setup. I would suggest calling both companies

How do they get the extra width?

And the Nighthawks too for wide axles.
The axle tubes are just 3/4” longer on each side, results in Rubi’s, Mojave’s, nighthawk/HA’s being 1.5” wider

Doesn't the max tow also have wider axles?
