No more drain plug?

Some guys on the JL side noticed that builds during the summer of 2021 stopped coming with drain plugs on the front differential. Mine was build 5-27-21 and I'll look and see if it still has the drain plugs front and rear later today.

How about you guys? Have you noticed that the drain plug isn't on your front diff housing if you have a new build?

There is none on the front of my 21 Rubicon with a manufacture date of 9/21

Just checked mine and it does have a drain plug in the front and rear.

For a vehicle that gets used off-road in the rocks, the absolute worst place to put a drain plug is at the bottom of the diff housing. After a few hits or dragging the bottom of the housing through a rock garden, the drain plug likely won't be able to be removed, so it becomes useless anyway.

There are ways around that for sure though. My Bison had a diff skid, and it added maybe a 1/4" to the clearance. Granted, that boron steel is no joke. A drain plug is a very nice thing to have...

Mine has a September of 2021 build date, I'll have to crawl under and look tonight.

Mine has one in the front and rear. Front looks more recessed than the above pic though. Rear one is on the side at ~5 o'clock position. Build date is 12-20

check the rear one again it should be in the side of the housing instead of bottom.

My August 21 JTR has no front plug. A welcome surprise. I was going to weld it if there was one there. Rear is on the side out of the way from rocks.

Can't you just loosen all 12 bolts and split the diff cover? they all have drain plugs that way.
