Dang lazy Americans! Why can’t I have a manual choke lever on my dashboard anymore? And where’s my fuel mixture adjuster??
I used to have fun with the timing lever - idle things down really slow then retard the timing until I could count the pops out the exhaust.

I also miss the ability to crank start in case the starter ever went south.
And those hand brakes! Those were so cool! I could grab one of those and spin in a circle for fun.
Even better on the models with a hand clutch lever showing off how quickly a person could operate brakes, clutch and steer all at the same time.

I had a 75 Cherokee with locking hubs. I don’t miss them.

I had an '01 Tacoma which was the first year they got rid of the Aisin manual hubs. I bought the front spindles and hubs from a junkyard '00 and swapped them in so I could unlock the front end from spinning full time. It was a "thing" to do back then and was supposedly stronger (because the web wheelers said so).

I noticed zero MPG improvement and nothing ever broke rock crawling before and after the swap. I followed the "don't bounce won't break" philsophy. Most front CV axles break because people are getting too bouncy trying to get up something. People sure thought it was cool though...

I used to wheel an ‘03 Liberty. Busted front diffs we’re a common result of people getting too bouncy.

After breaking a front axle u-joint on the trail on my Power Wagon. I installed RCV axles and DynaTrac Freespin hubs. I will do it again on my JT when the parts are available. Or go with 60/80 diff's.

What does the tazer do?
I have an SAS s10 with gladiator axles, I cannot get the fad to work.
1. Does the FAD have to talk to a computer to function?
2. Has anyone converted their front axle to manual hubs?
3. If you have converted it to manual hubs, what manufacturer made the conversion kit?

I had a 14 JK that I converted to hubs. Yukon makes a kit. It was involved and required new wheels. It gave me the ability to isolate the front driveline if there was any failure there. I could also adjust the caster without and DS vibes. I liked it and if not for the CAD on my 22 JT, I would try to do it again.

you can run around all you want with the front hubs locked providing you don't engage on a dry surface, if 4WD conditions you don't have to get out . plan ahead a little.
That's what I always did with my old CJ :like:

Very much appreciated, thank you.

Honestly I only use the locks when I fighting either slip because rock slime, skree etc or it's rock garden wheels in space action. Other than that it's open and just jumping between hi and lo as needed.

Ultimatly I always get to a point on the massmog trails where it's just easier to leave it in low and hop between 1-2, 3-4 or 5-6 depending on how open the trail is and then perhaps I locker, maybe because of slippies.

If you can brake lock a diff you ARE the LSD at that point.

So to answer your question, yes. And for the bonus adventure points I often go out on the beach in 2wd like a VW because I air down to like 8 and float on by.
It's amazing what the trucks will do in 2wd. Perhaps the overlanding/off road crazy has everyone convinced that if you are going anywhere you need to be in full off-road mode. AWD of course, but I took my Subaru all over the place where folks didn't expect it to go and while I really wished for low range a few times, those times were few.

In deep snow 2wd will get you a long way. Pulling a trailer I really only needed 4wd to get moving over plow berms.
