Ok, so with the 3.6 and 3.73s, you don't have the wide axles.gasser
35's and the 8spd, definitely go to 4.88s for oklahoma.
When towing and it gets hot, what gear, speed and rpm are you running?

Overland? Did you put the wide axles in it?I do have the widetrack hd44 axles under my jeep.

Did you check that? Because every model that the widetrack's come in has 4.10 gears. If you have 3.73 then I would highly doubt you have the wider axles.I did not but the guy that originally purchased the jeep ordered it with the upgraded axles. he also had the factory 2" lift added as well.

5th and 6th gear at that speed should put you in the 2500 to 3500 rpm range. It usually occurs in 5th or 6th gear and the truck will absently not let me downshift when this is happening. speeds are usually 65-70 but drop well under 60 mph when this occurs.
It does not shut down but the gauge pretty much maxes out and I get an overheating waring pop up on the dash. When you say it is overheating, how hot are we talking? Is it shutting itself down and/or going into limp mode? Or are you simply noticing that the coolant, trans and oil temps are rising? When you are pushing it hard, coolant temps into the 230° range are not abnormal from what I have seen.
Struggling to get up long hills with 3.73s and 35s while towing isn't surprising, even with only 2800#.
That was my thought too. I do not believe it is possible to order the wide axles on an overland from the factory, it would've had to have been an aftermarket swap, which is highly unlikely that someone would go through the work of swapping to aftermarket D44s to achieve the slight increase in width, but still run 3.73s.Did you check that? Can you manually put it in a different gear?
Are you manually shifting? or letting the auto do the work?
