Do the rear seats still lock even if you don't get lockable storage option?
I believe the back of the rear seat lock in all variants and the seat bottoms do not...

When I picked up my leather Rubicon the seats were high. When I got home I found the adjustment and was able to lower it significantly and it was much more comfortable...

I think I had it all the way down. Doesn’t seem like a smaller seat bracket is available aftermarket either

Must haves:

S package - Because manual locks and windows on a 4-door vehicle sucks.

Max Towing - This is the #1 reason I brought home a Gladiator instead of a Ram and without this package, the Gladiator would be a no-go. I intend to use this thing as a truck.

Cold Weather - Maybe I'm getting old, but we seem to get 6 months of winter in Kentucky these days and when it's a windchill of -12 outside and the Jeep has been sitting all night long, that warm steering wheel is an amazing thing to have.

Aux Switches - Took all the pain out of installing lights, etc. Love it.

Could do withouts:

Alpine audio - $1,300 above the stock system for audio that sounds like $210 from Walmart.

Cargo Management - The lockable underseat box is nice for doors off days, but could easily make do with the standard open box. The rail cleats and power outlet are nice, but I'm not sure they are $1,000 nice.

I've heard so many mixed reviews with the audio upgrade.
The other day I was out washing my car and my sister called. Long story short my dad had fell and the neighbor found him in the yard. So I had to rush over there, ended up at the ER with him for several hours. Had I had a firearm with me and just been out I would have needed a place to put it. I think the locking trunk + locking seats would have been a pretty good option. Kinda sold on that. Seeing that it is removable I wouldn't doubt the aftermarket will come up with something.

The led headlights and all safety items I can live without. I'm not a big luxury type. My blazer has no radio and no carpet drove it for years. I do have a new fiesta that I haven't changed oil on yet it just has heated seats and sunroof.

I just want the cold weather group, towing and aux switches really. :D

Why would you want the heated seats and steering wheel but not the remote start? The Remote start is programmed so that at certain temps, the seats and steering wheel kick on automatically, and in hotter weather, the AC kicks on with the remote. Just can't see why you wouldn't use the remote.
Manual transmission for me.

Im kind of just trying to forget about a manual. I did a search on any dealer that is within 100's of miles from me and nobody had a manual. The odds of a manual landing on a dealer lot in the config I want I think would even be more rare. If you werent doing anything wild color wise, just a red or black maybe, manual, hard top, mt tires, bed lined, LED lights, maybe the stereo. how long would that take to get?
My dealership is flying someone out to Nebraska to drive a 6-speed JTR back to St. Louis for me.

This is our first vehicle with ACC! Wow, its incredible. We used it on the 400 mile trip home from Tri-City Dodge. Its a game changer for us!

Ive read the mixed reviews on the premium sound. I agree. Im glad to have the 8" screen, I find the sound quality of the speakers "sufficient" but nothing great. However we wouldn't want the smaller screen and the sound is "good enough" for our needs.

We love the LEDs. Really puts out nice light!

Cold weather package a must for me since I am always cold.

Honestly, I think all of the features are great. Whether or not you feel the need to pay for them is individual preference. Personally, I won't buy another vehicle that doesn't have ACC after yesterdays trip! :)

i knew i had to have a Rubicon but also did not want to pay over 45k. so i custom ordered my "cheap jeep".

My Options:
6spd
hard top
auxiliary switches
trailer tow package (for the additional cooling south texas heat, will do some towing but nothing heavy)
spray-in bedliner

Options i wished i had included:
remote proximity keyless entry

A lot of great insights--thanks for an interesting thread!

I'm still waiting to see what Gator really looks like before I place an order, and I've gone back and forth on a lot of options. Here's where I am right now:
  • Trail cam: Cool, but too expensive for what it is and too many prerequisites. Pass.
  • Premium audio: I mostly listen to podcasts these days, so sound quality doesn't matter too much. Pass.
  • Automatic transmission: I used to live in England and was a manual transmission die-hard, but automatics have gotten much better and I want my wife to be able to drive it. Must have.
  • Cargo management: Expensive for what it is and I don't think I'd get much value from it. The most tempting part is the rail system, but I could probably bolt on a cheap aftermarket rail. Pass.
  • Tonneau cover: I've gone back and forth on this. It seems cool and I've love something to match the premium soft top, but I've seen videos where it is flapping all over on the highway. I'd like a cover, but will probably go to the aftermarket. I think I'll get a cheap Amazon cover for daily use/driving to work, and a Softopper to swap in when I'm going on a trip with the family and need to be able to load it high. Softopper is too ugly and shabby looking for permanent duty but would be great for occasional use. So factory tonneau cover? Pass.
  • ACC/active safety stuff: I really want to try ACC, but I wouldn't get enough use from it to justify the cost (including the other safety group) and the windshield wart is hard to swallow. Also, I'm not sure I trust Jeep with high-tech gimmicks. Doesn't seem like their wheelhouse, so I'd expect problems down the road. Pass.
  • LED lights: High quality aftermarket solutions are expensive, cheap aftermarket solutions seem like crap, and I've heard bad things about Jeep's halogen lights. Probably.
  • Aux switches: Not getting this would be to live in a world without joy. Will I add a winch and lightbar? Probably not, but this is a fairly cheap option that keeps the dream alive. Must have.
  • Soft/hard top: The practical side of me thinks a hard top is probably the way to go, but I've never had a Jeep and missing out on the soft top seems like missing the point. This is a bit a stretch goal for me, but my current leaning is: Dual top group.
  • Bed liner: I live in the desert where rust isn't really a problem, and I want a rubber mat regardless since it's so much easier on the knees and stuff doesn't slide around. I'm not a construction worker and I pay someone else to take care of my yard, so I'll be relatively easy on the bed. If I want a spray in liner, everyone seems to agree that aftermarket live-x is better and about the same price. Pass.
  • Tow package: A truck that can't pull a trailer? Really? For $250: Must have.
  • Steel bumper: Adds extra weight and I don't expect to get a winch, but on the other hand it looks good and taking off the wings would be fun. Kinda want it but probably don't need it: Probably pass.
  • Leather seats: I love leather, but $1,500 is a lot for mediocre-quality leather and I'll probably just get some kind of seat covers instead, which is probably better anyway for our hot summers. Makes me a little sad, but: Pass.
  • Body-colored fenders and hard top: This is an easy one because I think a nice color with black contrast top and fenders looks better than body matched. Gives it a more rugged look, makes it stand out more (every other truck on the road has body-colored fenders and top), and just gives it a more balanced look: Pass.
  • 8.4-inch radio: Apple Carplay is a requirement for me. The 7-inch radio covers that, and I don't care much about the rest. As I mentioned earlier, the upgraded speakers is kind of waster on me since I'm mostly listening to podcasts. Pass.
So that leaves me with a Rubicon with AT, dual top, tow package, LED, and aux switch, and some aftermarket bed topper options. Now if I can just decide between Gator and Hydro Blue.

The more I think about it the two options/packages that swayed to order a Rubicon that are not available on the Sport S with Max Tow Package was Premium LED Lighting and Remote Proximity Keyless Entry.

I really want:
Black, Red or Gator rubicon
Manual
Switches, proximity, cold weather, towing, bed liner
Those are basically my must haves.
Stereo, sure would be nice but it's not critical.
Bed rail system- I like the underwear lockable storage the best in that group. Kind of afraid I'll get it and aftermarket will make something nicer though...
Led I can live without, I am sure they are nice... Leather seats, safety stuff nah.

I honestly was not going to get my BT speaker, but I added it anyway just for convenience. I've used it at least a dozen times now. So glad I have it, sounds great, and charges up right behind the seat which is convenient. Not necessary, but nice creature comfort.

From what I've heard, if you don't have it, there's just a panel that covers up where the speaker would've been. The speaker dock is semi-receded into the back of the cab, so I don't forsee there being storage back there.

I've used it while working on my truck, doing yard work, and tailgating before a few games. Sounds great. Yes, unnecessary with all the speakers on the market, but I love it anyway.

That being said, if anyone doesn't have it, can they take a picture of that space?

Stealing a picture from @pughboy2 ’s thread where you can see the little storage cubby that would otherwise house the speaker.
