Sounds like you have it all figured out then lol.
I dunno if maybe you think I'm the OP?

I honestly don't know how to respond to this without sounding like a dick.

Just for anybody else reading this thread. If you do illegal shit to your vehicle, other people won't want to work on your illegal shit. Don't do shit you don't understand. You're taking responsibility. One rubber stamp on your title or registration from somebody having a bad day can be years of work to correct.

I erroneously had a (gas) vehicle title branded as salvage recently and it took me 3 years and involved the DOJ to get it fixed.

I originally had the 3.6L and sold it and got the Diesel. Having owned both I would get the Diesel again. I've never had a derate issues. I did come close one time in NM climbing a hill going almost 80mph but I just slowed down and was fine. I would recommend getting the Banks iDASH or the ScanGauge to monitor temps. I don't know about the Scangauge but with the Banks iDASH you can set alerts so it will let know once you come close to derating and you can make adjustments before derating. I did have a couple issues with the DPF and it going into limp mode but that was before I was able to monitor my temps with alerts and I also carry everything I need to do a manual regen if needed. The power and torque from the diesel is crazy in 4lo when off-roading it pretty much crawls over everything.

Diesel for the win.
I have a JL Ruby with the 3.0 and it is bumping 90K trouble-free miles, When the diesel was offered in the JT platform I ordered one. I wouldn't want a JL or a JT with the 3.6. Don't be afraid of it.

-What is your overall experience with the EcoDiesel's?
-Would you get the diesel again if you had to do it again?
-How has maintenance/replacements parts gone for the diesel engine since it is no longer being produced?
- Love it, great mpg, fantastic driving behaviour, no issues so far (40K KM)
- immediately
- No problem for me so far

For us/me in Germany there was no choice:

The only version of JT offered is Overland trim, EcoDiesel engine.

There are few imports (Rubicons with 3.6 gas engine) which are never a choice, due to petroleum pricing, consumption and missing torque.
We need that torque as overland build tend to be heavy (we got an Alucab ModCap, 35s, 3inch AEV lift and gear with us).

For me it’s the perfect engine in this car. The Wrangler was offered with a 2.0 4 cylinder diesel before, which is too weak from my pov.

No derating (nor during overlanding in Albania or French Alps).

However I tend to decode EGR, simply for longevity.

Just passed 126K on my 21 JTRD. Absolutely love this rig. Cruises highways. Grunts up rocks. Crawls over or through anything. Handles bigger tires, lifts and loads without skipping a beat (or regearing).

Derated once from bad fuel. Limped for a bit, cleared the code and no problems since.

Maintenance isn’t that bad. Oil and filter are a little pricier, but compared to what we invest when we buy any new rig, it’s a small cost. Do the routine stuff yourself and save cash, and know your ride better.

And in 20 years, you’ll have the coolest Gladiator at the Jeep show.

I bought one of the last JTRDs made in Dec of 23. It went on a diet, got a winch/ aluminum front bumper and a smartcap/RTT. You don’t want a bunch of stuff in front of the radiator! Keep that area clear and you won’t have issues with cooling. I also removed the aux battery and installed a jumper that keeps the ESS shut off. The Gen 3 model already had the big main battery and the upgraded cooling parts installed. Awesome rig! I do my own mods and maint.

I love the idea of diesels in trucks like ours. I hate all the modern garbage that has to go along with them though. If it were like diesels used to be before all that, I'd go for one. But now, unless you do a delete, most diesels are prime for a headache for your average consumer.

Also consider your driving habits. I have two friends with diesel vehicles, one uses his for trips every 2 to 3 weeks pulling a camper and it's the perfect truck for him; runs great and no issues. The other just drives to and from work, and he has issues with mpg and emissions because they need long trips for proper regen cycles and whatnot which he's not giving it.

My recommendation is don't get a diesel if its primary use (i.e. >90% of the time) is daily commuting.

I ordered a 22 diesel and loved it. Sold it for a bigger truck. I am again trying to work a deal now on another 22 Rubicon diesel. I loved the one I had and look forward to another since I have a full size truck for those bigger needs. Good luck.

Maintenance costs on them has come way down and there are more filter and oil options now.

2 - 5 gallon jugs of Castrol Euro Car $48 at walmart ($24 each)
1 - Oil filter from Docs Diesel or Ecoguard $35
1 - Fuel filter from ecoguard $20

Totals out to $103 before tax

DEF fluid is $9 for 2.5 gallons at walmart and it doesn't use that much unless towing or off-roading a lot.

Getting 20+ mpg on 37s while all the gassers struggle to break 16-18mpg, plus all the extra torque is priceless...

My JTRD on 37s with a 2.5in lift is more "sporty" to drive than my old gas JT sport s on 33s.

I have a 2018 Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4 ecoDiesel (Gen 2) that I bought used Feb 2020 with 13311 miles. Added Green Diesel Engineering tune Aug 2021 at 56429 miles.

It currently has 207117 miles and I have had to replace the battery, both in tank fuel pumps, and rear driveshaft. Get between 24-28 mpg depending on me or wife driving. Love it!

I have a 2022 Gladiator ecoDiesel (Gen 3) stock height on 37” that I bought used Oct 2024 with 62919 miles. Added Green Diesel Engineering tune this past March (didn’t record mileage for some reason). It now has 79153 miles. Have only replaced battery. Get 21-22 mpg. Love this one more!

He probably meant to write it out or delete the system. I don't know about emission checks it UT but if you can a legal tune from someone like GDE is good but the Jenny Craig plan....
