I own a medium size printing company.
So when I bought my used 22 JTRD the start/stop never worked. I just have the message that says "Stop / Start not ready battery charging"

I mentioned it to my local dealer and he stated that I must need batteries so they replaced both of them under warranty.

I picked it up yesterday and it still displays the message. Once I drive it for a few minutes it goes off and the stop/start feature starts working.

My question is, is that normal? I find it hard to believe that it takes a minute or two of the engine running before it works? On your guys trucks does it work from the moment of start up?

I'm half expecting the dealer to tell me it's normal so I figured I'd ask you guys.

Yes and no. The batteries that the dealer put in may not have been fully charged. It is normal to see that message after the Jeep sits for a few days. Once the batteries start to age you may see that message on for longer periods. The fact that you saw it after after new batteries, would indicate that the batteries need a charge.

Since both of your batteries are new, pick up an AGM battery charger. You can get a AGM trickle charger at a good price on Amazon. I like the NOCO Genius 2d.

Other things to consider looking at before messing around under the hood are the

IBS
Fuse array, (be careful hooking up chargers and disconnecting cables)

Yes. But if the batteries are up to speed it should go from cabin heating and cooling if selected on to ESS Ready. If Climate control is off it should say that the engine is not warm enough before saying Ready. If it says battery charging, the batteries need charging. Depending on how long it says battery charging is your clue on how discharged the batteries are.

The first start of the day ( especially on a cold day) you may see battery charging after warm-up. I would not worry too much if it goes out after 10-20 minutes.

There is a bunch of parameters that have to be met before the auto/stop works. If you have the steering wheel turned too far. Not enough pressure on the brake pedal. A/C on high. Anything that puts a load on the electrical system. Etc.

On my 2024….. The ASS won’t function until the engine (or whatever perimeters) are met.

After unmarrying & removing my Tazer…… I always take a ‘test drive’ to make sure everything is back to normal. The first time …the ASS wasn’t working and I thought…Oh shit..now what? But…low & behold….drive around a little bit more and it started working. Phew!

this. I've never had ESS operational in the first 5 or 10 minutes of driving.
