Thanks yall for the advice...although I was kinda looking for a solution not a "here is how to not do that again"...however its good to know I pretty much follow what has been already stated above as good practice (obv I wasnt the one putting this thing on)

The problem (other then Jeep using plastic cap) is you cant get anything of size value (channel locks, vice etc) to grip...as there is no room. I suppose I can bust it up...but didnt want to risk little plastic shards getting in there.
How rounded is it? Do you have a picture? There are sockets that are designed to back out damaged bolts or nuts. It might work, depending on the severity of the damage.

I use a 24mm 6pt socket on an extension and ratchet the filter cap until I feel it stop. Then give it the slightest nudge to cinch it down.

As for the drain plug. I take no chances and install a drain valve.

Since it's plastic, maybe you could roughly chisel some flat sides on it again and find a socket to fit. Or heat a slightly smaller socket and push it down on there. Either way you would have to replace it but I'm just throwing some ideas out there.

Wow... You're torqueing these things down way too tight or using the wrong tools.

He didn’t do it. A shop did. He’s now trying to fix it.

This is one of many reasons I feel it was cheaper for me to change the oil myself right from the start. Those "free" Jeep Wave oil changes seem to cost some of us a lot of time and money!

No question. I’ve had my last oil on the top of the engine issue. They’re just not always as careful as you would be.

This would do it. Definitely not reusing the cap after but it'll get it off.

I can almost guarantee this is what the shop will do because it's what we use to do in the shop.

UPDATE!

Yea went the drill and chisel out method. It wasnt so bad...you drill a circle to get the top off and filter out...then carefully chisel down to the gasket/ring...once there it unsticks and able to twist it out.

Nasty. Glad you got it out. You were probably WAY more careful than a shop would have been.

Did a 1st oil change on mine a couple weeks ago and also
installed a Fumoto quick drain valve. As far as the oil filter
cap you should only need to tighten it till it stops. Other than
having an engine that's vibrating so bad to cause it to
work loose, which is HIGHLY unlikely, there should be no
issues with it backing out with just being snug.

Just like everything engine wise you should be checking
fluid levels and at that time check the cap if it's a
concern.

I work on over the road truck engines and I can't tell you
how many oil filters I have had to hammer a heel bar
through the filter to get it off. Then there are the ones
that appear someone may have gotten side tracked
and forgot to tighten up a bit more and am surprised
that the oring didn't blow out it was so loose, just goes to
show you don't need to get crazy when tightening
oil filters, hand tight is good

As others have said though, a pair of channel locks,
or vice grips. Not sure if a guy had a slightly smaller
socket that just wont quite go over the cap. Heat just
hot enough that it will melt over the cap, let it cool,
then crank it off.

Not sure if one would fit or not, but
one of the band type filter wrenches that would go
over the outside of the cap, insert extension and
ratchet and remove cap.

The heating a socket was just a brain storming idea
so please don't shame me too much guys. ;)
