I purchased a Base model to try and get the least electronics, sensors, bells and whistles possible. Not the sole reason but you don't need that.
I'm scared these new rigs need too many signals and hand shakes to operate and if one is for some reason not seeing/ connecting like in the backwoods what the hell does one do?

So my brother just called. Reason for this post. He has a 2018 Ford F250 and it was completely dead. He had to take another vehicle to work luckily for him he was at home. He finally figured out the powered steering fluid need 3 oz! It was on the minimum line but apparently still needed it. The sensor didn't recognize the fluid at that level.

What are the items that we need to know about our Jeeps? I'm paranoid I will one day jump in and the damn thing won't operate. And I'm 30 miles from any living human.

Any insight on the things that can creap up and catch us or am I just too paranoid with the new technology.

Loosing sleep on this.
I’m glad I don’t loose sleep over crap I can’t control. EVERY vehicle built today is an electronic nightmare ........period....every one of them.....and EVERYONE of them will eventually leave you stranded...EVERY ONE of them!

If this idea scares you, you’d have to go way way back to avoid computers. But you could. Just enjoy your rig and enjoy the idea of a warranty. If it really bothers you, manage your ride purchases to warranty expiration. If that sounds ridiculous, then maybe the computer fear isnt as big as you thought.

Pack accordingly for a few nights out......and just tell yourself on the long walk back to civilization that “it’s a Jeep thing”! Haha.....

Interestingly enough I was just able to get into my Gladiator because my 2018 F150 Lariat is being bought back by Ford because they can not figure out why my transmission keeps dropping into 1st gear when it hit 70-80mph.

They have been working on it for months and simply can not figure out whats wrong with it.

Just be glad GM doesn't make Jeep. :)

GM Orders Stop Sale on C8 Corvette Over Brake-by-Wire Sensor Issue: Report
The recall will also apply to the Chevy Trailblazer, Buick Encore, as well as Cadillac's CT4, CT5 and XT4.

"Material used in a sensor connection in the electronic brake boost system in these vehicles may have been contaminated during the material supplier’s production process. Contamination of this material may cause an interruption of communication between the sensor and the brake boost system under certain conditions.”

Loosing sleep is just an expression.
But really. What are the failure items that one should be concerned with?
What has anyone personally experience that we could learn from.
If there's a sensor in every fluid I would think we might want to consider carting some especially if you don't regularly inspect them as I do.
Just hear about a lot of new rigs not working due to a simple item like fluid level or proper hand shake of sensors.

Love my Jeep. Hope it's just as reliable as all my others.

Never heard of one not starting because of power steering fluid on min.

In any event, it's a concern yes. A minimal one.

You could just as easily wake up and find a flat tire due to a slow leak.

And if living 30 miles from any living human with a vehicle that won't run creates a dangerous situation for you, I'd say that you need a redundant vehicle with no electronics as a back up.

There is no list of things like you seek.

Stuff breaks sometimes. But it's not as fragile as you fear.

Buy a motorcycle or a pre-smog Jeep for backup.

I keep a code reader in my glove box. It has helped get my colorado started when it would often not communicate for some unknown reason. I got rid of it pretty quick. Often just simply disconnecting the battery for a few minutes resets the electronics and will fix some problems. One thing is for sure though, I wouldn’t be 30 miles out without a buddy. Always try to have another rig with you, never know what can happen.

Yep this affects all vehicles now days because they use CAN-BUS wiring archetecture. Gone are the days of each item having it's own wiring. Those were the good old days. Must simpler and easier to diagnose issues. But those days are gone. Now, 1 wire might control 4 functions. Unless you're an electrical engineer, don't even try to figure it all out. :D

I understand what you're saying, and these failsafes can strand you and sometimes work against their intended purpose

I punched a hole in my transmission pan when I had a Ram Rebel when I was off-roading. The computer knew there was no fluid in the transmission so it would override the shifting pattern required to put he transfer case into neutral for flat tow mode. We finally had to have someone hold the lever on the transfer case from under the truck while someone else held the shifter in place. Then CLUNK and it happened.

If the computer wasn't fighting me it would have been a lot quicker
