3.5 lift with 37s...right foot just goes in the jeep on the floor and right hand grabs the handle and I step in and over in one motion....I'm only 5'11" these aren't that tall even lifted

**in the begining I tried a few different style running boards and all had the same issue...too close to the rocker to be useful and smashing ankle/calf on the exit**

I didn't have a problem with the original plastic steps on my Overland, but Wife did. We checked out the RSE steps on a friend's Gladiator, and she loved 'em! Passenger side steps are always on, driver's side I use maybe half the time depending on just how limber I'm feeling!

I started paying more attention to this action when my FJ driver's seat started getting a lot of wear from sliding in and out of it....
I step my left foot on to the board (I have the oem nfab nerf bars), with my toe facing forward and my foot parallel to the truck, left hand on the grab handle and right hand on the steering wheel (balance only, that wears out too), stand straight up and rotate to face forwards, then sit down as I swing under the steering wheel.

I've tried to encourage others to get in and out of the passenger side in this fashion (again, for seat longevity), but its a lost cause... There's a short/heavier/older lady that rides to Friday work lunch with us on occasion, and she is dead set on making a 5 minute show out of climbing in and out of my jeep.

There is a switch for doors off operation.
Correct. Doors are off quite a bit here in AZ. There is an interrupt switch I can install that I just haven’t gotten around to. Allows doors off and useable with a separate switch.

After getting in to drive home from work, I realized I grab the bar with my Right hand and the door with my left. Sorry to give such misleading advice on such an important topic!

I step over my wide rock rails, the wife and my toddler climb up them. Prior to the new rails, I used the MORE hide-a-steps which worked perfect from a height perspective and required very little ducking down with a 2 inch lift and 35s.

I should note I'm barely 5'9" so it's more of a throw a leg over and hop my ass into the seat high enough to hopefully not hit the edge.

Dang, there's no way I could just climb into mine without the running boards. I can't step that damn high!
Well, I do still have the stock overland tires. Once I change those, I may think differently. (My overland steps are still in storage, if needed).

I'm 6'4"... I just put my leg in and sit down. :giggle:

To your point though, I test drove an Overland trim with the plastic running boards and they were awkward. I have the enhanced (wide) rock rails on mine and they work great for my needs. Just big enough that my kids can used them (or me when I'm "posing" the truck on something for my snapchat story ?), but not so big that they stop me from just stepping over them when I don't need to use them.

I find that I'm mostly stepping over the boards, but I mainly got them for my kids and they use them everytime.
I got them to keep people that park next to me from denting my doors. The running boards damage the bottom half of strangers' doors. :)

I may be an odd duck in this regard. I'm tall enough to just step in, but I tend to use the step anyway. However, I step up with my right foot parallel with the Jeep, instead of the left, and swing my butt into the seat on the way up. Then I swing my legs around after I'm sitting. For some reason this feels easier and more natural than going with the left foot first.

I feel bad for my passengers. 4.65" lift without any steps. Only sliders.

I'm 6'2" and it is a bit of a leap.

I know this sounds stupid, but seriously, how do you get into your Gladiator? The stock running boards are just wrong. It's like they are not designed at the right height or something, too close to the floorboard height.

When mine was stock, I just swung my right leg in and hopped onto the seat. But now with a 2" lift and 35" tires, that technique is a bit cumbersome. But stepping on the running board you end up way too high and then have to kinda lower down in at an angle, or worse, step up then twist and back in butt first sidesaddle style!

My previous jeep (2012 JKU), the stock running boards were perfect. Anybody else find these running boards awkward?

Anybody do any mods to the stock boards like lowering them somehow?
Rock slide Engineering are the cat's meow
