A little gloating over the competition:

Here is TFLoffroad video where they are testing the '24 Tacoma and Colorado. Something snaps on the Tacoma and it loses 4wd at about 10 minutes into the video. This was pretty light duty four wheeling but he was giving it some gas with it grabbing and losing traction at different wheels. Still, it didn't look like enough to break anything. They don't know what it is yet so I guess it is something internal. The Colorado did not have a problem on the trail but at the end they said there is a stop sale on them for "unwarranted emergency braking". Even before all that, all the messing around with off road drive modes seemed pretty annoying. Can't people drive off road without all the gimmicks?

Its just a snapped CV axle. Toyotas have had that issue for ever. Its just a iffy design. a lot of Built toyota rigs go RCVs and better joints. the stock shafts are good but the joint at the hub is made of glass. I've swapped out so many CVs trailside i can do it upside down, asleep, while cooking a soufflé. I swear ?

Did they post a new video saying that's what it was? They looked around and acted like they didn't see anything obvious. They're going to look really stupid if that's all it is.

I'm old enough to remember the early Toyota Taco commercials where it was indestructible.

It is difficult for some people to read or interpret sarcasm from text.

nope but i now that sound distinctly. If it was internal it would have continued making hella noise, and possibly bound up to where it would only func in 2wd. or even worse they could've split the diff housing and dumped oil everywhere. the fact that it was a one and done noise and one that i know well. Its a CV axle and specifically the hub side joint.

They pretty much have to do it like that to get the video to be recommended and moved up by the algorithm. I agree it is stupid and many of the YouTube creators think it is also.

One think they got right is that they were perplexed on the breakage because they were on a hill, the tires were easily slipping on the ice, and the tires were straight, so, you would think very little strain on the axle.
I am thinking it is a specific defect in that vehicle that caused the axle break and not an indicator of the strength of all the new Toyotas.

My buddy is hardcore Toyota. I'm agnostic with regard to brand but more of a fan of engineering.

We both came to this conclusion after talking to another lady we worked with that was telling me how many issues I was going to have because I bought a Jeep truck instead of a taco (despite 10k price difference for same gear).

Conclusion was the Jeep's running gear and overall capability was superior. Engine to Engine, looking at the same reliability overall, they're both V6 and V6 engines have inherent resonance flaw that is difficult to overcome. Toyota had better on-road manners. The Toyota beats Jeep on interior quality all day every day. It's quieter, better tech, and very solid build quality. Which to consumers that buy new trucks every 3-5 years, matters much more.

In the end, you're paying for better driveline and off-road / overall capability with the Jeep. You're paying for better day-to-day livability and fit/finish with the Toyota. The Toyota will never be as good off-road or as capable as a truck as the Gladiator, dollar for dollar. The Gladiator will NEVER be as nice or hold up as well as the Toyota interior.

In the end I choose the Gladiator because I intend to hold it forever, and no matter how nice an interior is, eventually it is dated. It's just a shame the Gladiator's interior was dated the first year it rolled out LOL.

None of your business.
Yeah, “poors” was just intended to be funny, hypocritical, and provocative at the same time.

TFL’s in a tough spot. They’re trying to make a business out of it, while being honest and maintaining some objectivity. They’ve mentioned being blackballed in the past by Ford, GM, and Subaru for telling the truth. Not sure what the best solution is. Information dominance is the primary lever of power for the manufactures. Full submission is the price of admission.
