I gave up on TLF a while ago, their comments that there's no fluid coming out kind of demonstrate they don't know much about how vehicles work. Popped u-joints and sheared teeth in the diff don't typically result in leaks and popped CVs only sometimes blow their grease out of the boot.

I'm interested in the post-mortem on this, if I were to guess, I'd say the traction control clamped down on both front brakes at the same time and either popped a front half shaft or sheared the ring or pinion in the front diff.

I stopped paying a lot of attention after they tried to explain the 4xe. Like they hadn't even read the stupid marketing materials for at least some sort of perspective.
I took it as they were trying to figure it out as they went.

I'm a Jeep and Toyota owner. Jeep may use more robust components and a solid axle is stronger for sure....but...Toyota has always been more reliable for me. I haven't been stranded since my 85CJ7, but, I've had lights and issues with new jeeps and Toyotas have just remained solid through the years...granted 1 transmission went unusually early...but never stranded me. If I was going to a trail, I'd drive my jeep, if it was across the country, I'd take my Yota. Just how I feel about it...but I've seen both last a long time and do amazing things. This TFL vid showed a moment many friends have faced...a WTF moment...no matter the brand. But it's early in the development. Never buy year 1, no matter the brand. I've owned 3 Jeeps and 3 Tacoma's, 2 Tundras and 2 4Runners. All of them fun, no hate. Stuff happens. Enjoy the trail ?

Their motorcycle channel was a joke, they put some intern who had almost no experience in charge of reading the brochure at you.

TFL and whatever genre sub YT channel they have going has never catered to enthusiast that want the deep dive info. It is all the low information surface level stuff.

If you go to their oldest video on YT and their TFL Car channel and compare to anything done today, it has not really changed a bit in their delivery other than better production quality. Hell, there is even old video of Andre not speaking a lick of English but Russian while Roman and Nathan are speaking English.

TFL in whatever form though has a following that might not be most of us, but they are like 90% of the other monetized YT channels in that they know how to pimp hand the algorithm.

I get more out of watching and listening to the truck vs listening to them speak. And I watch how much they have to fiddle around with controls and touch screens and stuff.

In this Tacoma video I was watching the wheels spinning and braking/grabbing and I was listening to what sounded like the turbo kicking in before the driveline broke. It seemed odd that he had to give it so much fuel. It didn't look like it required that much to go up that section and it wasn't causing the wheels to spin faster so where was that power going? Sweetums (seriously, I have to call you "sweetums"?) mentioned traction control. Could be.

My buddy is hardcore Toyota. I'm agnostic with regard to brand but more of a fan of engineering.

We both came to this conclusion after talking to another lady we worked with that was telling me how many issues I was going to have because I bought a Jeep truck instead of a taco (despite 10k price difference for same gear).

Conclusion was the Jeep's running gear and overall capability was superior. Engine to Engine, looking at the same reliability overall, they're both V6 and V6 engines have inherent resonance flaw that is difficult to overcome. Toyota had better on-road manners. The Toyota beats Jeep on interior quality all day every day. It's quieter, better tech, and very solid build quality. Which to consumers that buy new trucks every 3-5 years, matters much more.

In the end, you're paying for better driveline and off-road / overall capability with the Jeep. You're paying for better day-to-day livability and fit/finish with the Toyota. The Toyota will never be as good off-road or as capable as a truck as the Gladiator, dollar for dollar. The Gladiator will NEVER be as nice or hold up as well as the Toyota interior.

In the end I choose the Gladiator because I intend to hold it forever, and no matter how nice an interior is, eventually it is dated. It's just a shame the Gladiator's interior was dated the first year it rolled out LOL.
Haven't seen the new gen, but my Rubicon with leather fit and finish and especially tech is way better than my neighbors previous gen Tacoma with leather. We both agreed the jeep interior was just so much nicer and premium and the 8.4 made his feel even more dated. Bought precovid and withing a month of each other my jeep was 6k total more than his so it's not like it was massive price differences.

In the video. You notice that they said Toyota engineers were eager to see what happen. They don't want this shit to get out.

They also said there are 20 people working on it… that’s an impressive response if it’s true.

If I were a Toyota engineer, I’d be very concerned after viewing that video. Doesn’t appear particularly rugged.

They are probability wondering if they will have to issue a recall when more of these break.

I'm sure there are a lot of people searching for video reviews of the new Tacoma and how it does off road. I know I would be, if I wanted one. TFL has 1M+ subscribers. The breakdown video has almost 500K views. That is a lot of bad press.
