For sure it will fit- it’s the same transmission 👍🏼

but someone fill me in- why $100 more than ppe….. what else is gained??
You can get what you want, it's just another option.

The PPE looks sand cast, the ZF looks vacuum cast. Maybe the ZF has better gasket surfaces, it also seems to come with a filter and gasket.

Just throwing it out there, some folks like OEM some like aftermarket.

The fins on the ZF appears deeper and runs down nearly the whole length of the pan vs the PPE just half way. I gotta craw under mine to checks for clearance

What temp difference did you see before and after the new pan install? What are your ambient temps now too?
None, and there isn’t a pan that will change this. It does take longer for the fluid to get hot, but the way the cooling system (and warming) works with this transmission- unless you bypass the thermostat/block off the thermostat it will continue to operate between 180-200~. It uses the coolant to warm the fluid to 180*, @180 the thermostat opens allowing the atf to pass to the front trans cooler which cools the coolant back to 180, and the process repeats.

The added 2 quarts takes more time to get to temp, however the system still operates within the same ranges.
If you want to change the operating temperature you will have to change the heat/cool thermostat system…

I personally choose the ppe for the 2 additional qts to decrease fluid degradation.

The newer 8 speeds have deleted the transmission thermostat. FYI

So, trying to understand the two pics…the old one had a thermostat to help regulate the transmission temp,…get it up when cold and cool it down to coolant temps if too hot and the newer one without the thermostat just has free flowing coolant at whatever the engine temp is doing is what you should see the transmission at? Correct? So the thermostat was redundant and they engineered it out.

I guess I have the new design…
So hypothetically speaking, should we all be seeing our transmission temps match our coolant temps? I mean our transmissions not only get help from the engine coolant temps to raise the temps but we also have 30” of exhaust pipe helping out too.

I would like to know if having an exhaust shop
lower or reroute the y pipe to a different location would be worth the effort?

The transmissions basically have the same heater just different in the thermostat redundancy in the old one

Edit: yes

That could be why ypur transmission is running 5° -10° cooler it has no restrictions. Hmm never thought about this.

Here's a pic of the diesel steel pan. Plenty of room to for that ZF aluminum pan. Dammit spending more money now. Originally, i was planning on just tig weld a bung on to the steel pan for easier future drains, but that damn ZF pan looks sexy af. I've seen my trans temp up to 225* during a slow 11,000ft climb.
