Given that you can only get the Eco-diesel is only available on certain trim levels for the Ram and Grand Cherokee, does anybody think it will be offered as low as the Sport S model, or will it be reserved for the higher trim levels?

That's a good question. A Sport S with diesel and max tow would still have the better axles, and big brakes. I'll never do any hard core rock crawling, so the standard T-case is fine. The HD suspension will get swapped out for a 2" lift, and the Wheels upgraded to at least 35s, so suddenly a Rubicon seems like less of a value. Hmmmm.

My semi-educated opinion is that the Diesel will only be available on Overland and Rubicon trims
That would be disappointing, I'm waiting on the Gladiator anyways because of finances at the moment, but was really considering a Sport or Sport S max tow diesel when I do finally pull the trigger. I want the towing that the overland doesn't get, but don't need the Rubicon addons.

+1 .... all the rumors that have been true so far about the Gladiator have also said only upper trim levels for the diesel.

Maybe. Seems logical that they would offer the JT trim level that has the most towing capacity + highest torque engine.

How about a "No Red Trim Rubicon Diesel" trim package?

Not the logic that FCA follows though....go look at 2018 Rams or GCs in the builder or used on Autotrader, Only mid to high trim levels have diesel.

* how about trim matches exterior color?

I think they would be missing a large market to reserve it to the upper trim levels. MHO is that the Sport S is going to be their biggest selling trim level. The diesel would be the best option for overlanding because of the fuel range and torque.

If you want the diesel bad enough you will jump a trim hence making Jeep even more profit. Its 100% a sales tactic. Go look at various cars and trucks and pretty much every make does this. "Oh I want auto climate control" sorry only on top trims. "Oh I want led lights so I can actually see shit at night" - have to move up a trim level.

They could offer it as optional on Sport S with Max Tow package. They already rope in ppl to take the auto trans and other costly hardware that way, in addition to the thousands for the diesel itself.
