Hi all,
This may be a very very minor and stupid question. but, its my first jeep and not sure what to expect. I know they can ford water max 30 Inches and all that and I have done fording in the past with another vehicle in controlled circumstances but what about surprise circumstances Was driving home this morning from a couple counties over on a road I don't know very well (due to some serious flooding on the main road I travel). when I came around the corner and encountered some unexpected overrun flooding. it happened so suddenly I didn't have time to stop and check it out. I hit the water going about 25-30 (reduced speed from 50 for weather conditions) and got an immediate wall of water sprayed up from the front. I reduced speed asap and went nice and easy through the rest wasn't a lot maybe 10 yards total. if i had to guess based of the vehicle in front of me small boat trailer the water was less than 10 inches deep if it was even 6 as it didn't go over the trailer brake lights. My main concern was the speed of the initial contact and the amount of water sprayed up. The rest of the trip was uneventful other than one other small area I crawled through just fine having seen it and had a chance to gauges it. Anything to worry about here? Anything to check. I popped the hood when i got home about 15 mins later and a part from a little water on the air intake support bolts area (which could have come in from normal rain blowing under the hood?). Again I know this is probably laughable but new owner not sure what to expect. I can definitely say I'm more worried about the little Honda accord that went through right after me. Added pictures just to show only places I found water.

If it was only 6-10" I wouldn't worry.

It's when it gets up to the bottoms of the doors and such that you have to think about replacing diff fluid but even then it's not a big deal. Don't sweat it.

These things will fling RAIN water straight up in the air when you're driving sometimes due to the gap between the front tires and fender, pretty funny actually.

Did not ingest any water and hydro-lock the engine, so be thankful for that.

I doubt you did anything damaging. If you want to be super anal, maybe check the diffs for water intrusion but would be unlikely.

Yeah I checked the air intake and it just looks dry and normal Not even entirely sure water got into the engine area. I added some pics of where i found water seems like minor areas i still had loose dust on the reservoirs and such. i figured its a none issue but don't know enough about Jeeps yet to know when to be concerned. Thank you for your input.

Thanks, yeah I figured the shape of the bumper and lack of front fender wells? caused it to look crazier than it was. It went through like it was there was nothing to it and id be surprised if the water even got to the rim but that initial splash at speed scared the hell out of me. Coming from an Xterra I am very happy with its performance so far and I look forward to really getting it out and doing things. Thanks for the help!

So you ran through a puddle in your Jeep. Never did that in a minivan or Corolla before?

this was the result of my first blast through a mud puddle.
I was surprised how much came up into the engine compartment but had no problems.
I used a pressure washer to clean it out and wiped it down with engine shine afterwards but disconnected the battery and wrapped the alternator with plastic first.
My first keep too and I get a good laugh out of how much mud and water it slings from the tired.
IT’S A JEEP THING !!! ??
