I have never bought a truck (any) for gas milage. I fill up twice a week so depending on how far I go could cost more or less at what ever the price is. Knock on wood my Gladiator has been great so far and heater is better than my Dakota was. Rams are nice but a jeep is a jeep. I wish I could afford another

Im definitely thinking my heater control unit is out of spec now after reading people opinions.

When I turn the temp up a couple degrees, it takes 5 minute for the heater to react and then it turns into a blast furnace. When I turn the temp down a bit it sometimes doesnt respond at all, and other times it takes 5-10 minutes to adjust the temp.

I did not know 4wd auto was an option on the 2500, I doubt the HVAC is any better probably the same system. What 2500 gets 20mpg?
I averaged 17-18 in my ram 3500 dually Cummins. Pulling 10k lbs still was 15. Pulling 20k camper was 10-12.

I pull my empty utility trailer and get 12 in the gladiator haha.

New CTDs must be better than the older ones, I had a ‘03 3500 SRW for 7 years and 80k miles and it got about 15mpg at best.

I love mine, but I’m a 4x Jeep owner. I have no complaints whatsoever. Not all shoes fit every foot. I wish you the best with your new ride.

The idea of 700hp is great. Not sure if I would want to drive it daily. 400 is about my limit for a DD. THat's my opinion. You may love it. But stop and go traffic etc can be a bit much with those numbers. For a full on Hooligan mobile....700hp, please.

The Jeep does take a bit of adjustment. I drive mine daily in Colorado. In and out of mountains. Snow and all that. Will it dance over snow and ice like my 1995.5 URS6 did? Nope. But that's group B rally tech.

I run 33s. Mud tires. It does drive through everything. I find it well balanced. I can kick the rear and control it if I want. Do I go over 50mph in 4HI? No. I don't mind going from 2 to 4HI when I need it. I keep it in 2 mostly. If I need 4HI I should not be going over 50 anyway.

Get what you like. You will have an easy time trading in your Jeep. Not every vehicle is for every person. I LOATHED my 2018 Outback and most people though I was crazy.

FWIW my heat is boiling.... no issues in the cold. AC feels lack luster.

Thats good info, thanks. I'm looking at the Cummins in the 2500 so would expect better gas mileage there. And I would hope RAM Laramie would have a cushier ride than the stripped down commercial model but I definitely have some test driving to do.

My guy at the RAM/Jeep dealer just said the best he would do for a TRX is $10k over MSRP so I guess that option is out, for now.

I think I'll keep the JTR for another summer to see if it grows on me. If not, I'll wait for year two of the TRX and hope they iron out some of the bugs. Surely nobody can fault me for loving the idea of a 700+hp production pickup.

If you get bored, you might consider finding a diesel Gladiator close by & take it for a spin. Depending on your elevation, that powerplant might give you the tingles :giggle:

Liquor Attorney. So not all bad...
Is this an option on the JL? You and I both know it's not on the JT.
CRAAAAAPP. First I meant RockTrac - the one with 4H Auto. And I did think it was available with EcoDiesel. But you are correct - no 4H Auto unless your engine has sparkplugs. My Bad. But I blame FCA. Why can I have 4H Auto with EcoDiesel? I even made this entire post using your preferred TradeMarked term...

Anyway @869 KPH you are right sorry. Thanks for catching.

Not the thread I pictured myself posting when I picked up the car from the dealer in August 2020, but here I am.

I bought the wrong rig, thats it. My sting gray Rubi is an excellent vehicle. Decent driving on city streets, easy to commute in, handled road trips well. Reliable, fun, simple etc.

The catch, I travel up and down mountain passes 30 times a year. Shifting this thing in and out of 4H when the roads go from snow covered to clear and wet is silly. The truck handles poorly at highway speeds in 4H. The heater is atrocious to deal with. Fuel mileage is unbelievably bad for a V6, though I don't drive enough to really care about mpg.

Will be looking at selling this thing and grabbing a RAM 2500. Maybe test drive a TRX just for S&Gs.

Have only respect for this forum and Jeep folks altogether. Wish I could find a way to appreciate the Gladiator as much as it deserves.

I definitely wont miss waving at people 20-30 on my trip to the grocery store here in Issaquah. Too many jeep owners here. Yeesh! :)
bye Felicia

If you think the heater is atrocious in the Jeep wait til you deal with air conditioning in a Ram

Also, what's bad about the heater? I guess I like to cook myself so I've never understood the complaints
