Wet roads. Hit was pretty hard. when I walked around the back, I expected to see significant damage. To of my surprise, I see nothing but the lightest of scuffs on the lowest part of the tailgate.

Best I can tell all the spacing of the bumper and truck bed are good. Did the hitch do most of the saving? He said he was doing 35, which I doubt. The damage would be worse.

Look over closely the inside of the bed for metal movement, a friend last month his JT took a similar hit, it tweaked the bed in a curved downward at the tailgate, insurance is replacing the bed.

the photos remind me of what "Gunther" would show in the "Curtis" comic strip!

That's the reason I always leave my hitch in. 15 years ago I got rear ended in my F250, bent my draw bar, no damage to the truck. Granted it was a large hitch but it killed the Cady no other damage to the truck.

Steel bumpers are great! Add a tow hitch and impale their radiators....and just get a scratch on your ball.

I bought a used max tow package hitch receiver on FB marketplace and put in a ball hitch just so I could have some added rear end protection and hopefully discourage tailgaters 🤣

Looks like the hitch and maybe the spare took most of it? Either way I'd have insurance look it over just to dot the i's and cross the t's.
Surprisingly, I see nothing underneath that’s been pushed in. The spare area still has all of its shape.

Not a dig... but why do people always hide their tag ? It's not like you drive around with it visible 365 days a year... seen by millions of cameras and public information ?

Real question, genuinely curious ?

Foremost, I'm glad you are okay... hopefully nobody was injured.

By the way, thats a skinny finger... 🤣
