Rather than Jeep investing in a modern Gladiator, we get "Special Editions" and the promise of an antiquated V-8 all for an overpriced mid-sized truck. As badly as I would like to replace my Glad with a future Glad in a few years, I suspect I will struggle paying Jeep prices for an old truck. What a shame!! By the time we get an updated Gladiator, the just released, all new 4 Runner will have a mid-life refresh. How about that perspective?!?

Oh - and if Ford makes the New, modern Australian Ford Ranger Super Duty available in the United States, it will be over for the Gladiator! Done - send it to the Jeep Truck graveyard.

Outside of some fresh engine options, what is the Gladiator missing?

That's a partially serious question.

Aside from ventilated seats, the Jeeps offer nearly everything the other midsize trucks do (off the of my head, anyway) and the prices have been steadily easing downward with Jeep packaging more items in lower trim levels as well as constant incentives helping to level the playing field.

Why would Ford send a Ranger here with the capability of an F-150 at F-150 prices lol.

Also, the Ranger already outsells the Gladiator, like every other mid sized truck, except the Ridgeline.

Idk what is up with all this gnashing of the teeth and omg, you folks love it though.

Either they build a truck you want, or they don't. You either buy or you don't. No need for all this drama.

And I always struggle to understand why these are compared to any other mid sized truck ever. They’re wranglers and pickups combined. I bought it because I wanted a wrangler that could tow better than a wrangler. Other than that, it’s a toy that pretends to be a truck. I couldn’t be happier. It was never meant to be a serious truck. It’s meant to be a fun one.

Because it's a mid sized truck and directly comparable?

It's literally, right there with the rest of them, tows more than most, hauls less than some, little bigger, little smaller.

It's a mid sized truck in every sense, totally comparable with a Ranger Colorado, or Tacoma.

What it's not is a 2500 lol. Or a sports car.

Yeah it’s a mid size truck but put it offroad with any of the ones you’ve mentioned and there’s no comparison. It fits a bit of a different niche.

I respect your opinion, but don’t agree. Solid axles favor off road capability instead of safety and comfort on the road. Removable roofs and doors serve no purpose but fun, and add significant cost. The shape has nothing to do with fuel economy or payload. They shape it like a jeep and know that it will sell. Short beds with no options for long beds like the competition. The only thing that makes it comparable is that it technically, is a truck. In my opinion. If I wanted a reliable mid sized truck for good prices, I’d buy a Colorado and choose the interior trim I wanted. These are marketed towards adventurers, not people that want to put 4x8 plywood in the back. Yes, I know you can. That’s why I mentioned it.
