I recently obtained a 2021 Mojave from a family member who gave me a great deal. It wasn’t until I took delivery of it that I started to research what the Mojave package actually is built to do.
Well unfortunately for me the mountains of Western N Carolina are not exactly the terrain the Mojave was designed for, at least that is what I gather from the little bit of research I have been doing.
It seems the gearing in the transfer case may be too high for rock crawling and more technical off road maneuvers.
With the inability to easily disconnect the sway bar, it seems that will hamper the Jeeps front suspension.

I am sure there are other features that separate the Mojave from the more trail ready Rubicon.

So I guess my question is, besides running through the deserts of the Southwest at full speed, what else is the Mojave good at?

Does anyone with a Mojave do any rock crawling?

The Mojave is great at overlanding and driving through rough terrain at speed. Great for things like fire roads that are rutted up a bit, etc…
Even for rock crawling, a Mojave will outperform most other trucks, including other JT models. It still has good factory ground clearance, 33s and a rear locker. I would say the two weaknesses compared to a Rubicon would be in payload and intense rock-crawling(where a wrangler would probably be best).

As a daily driver, the Mojave has the best road manners, most comfortable seats and in 2021 when I ordered mine, the Auto 4WD (Select Trac) 242 transfer case option. Living in Colorado it is great for winter driving. I also use mine for light trails and overlanding duties as I have a 2002 TJ on 40s for rock crawling. I also volunteer with CORE, Stay the Trail and Tread Lightly so I work a dozen or more offroad events amd trail projects every year and my Mojave is a great vehicle for carrying all that gear. It is not a rock crawler and its softer suspension does detract from its cargo carrying and towing capability, but that isn't what I bought it for.

Thanks, I suppose I will learn what its strengths and weaknesses are in time. So far I am enjoying it but I haven’t even got it down a gravel road yet.
Nice looking rig, I am digging those front and rear bumpers. I may have look at them in the near future.

My front and rear bumpers are Rock Hard aluminum. The front is their mid-width which is actually lighter than the factory plastic bumper. Also, the winch plate sits low, between the frame rails so my Warn Zeon10 winch doesn't block any air flow to the radiator. Rock Hard is a great, veteran owned company, and all their products are US made in Nebraska. It also has a front skid plate to protect your remote shock reservoirs.

Crime fighter.
The transfer case gearing isn’t “too high” for crawling, it’s just that the Rubicon tcase is better suited for it. Folks crawl in non-Rubis all the time.

Mojave is fine , I added Apex front sway bar disconnects they are better then the factory that reconnect at a certain speed. The Rubicon is better cause of the ultra low transfer case and front locker , but Mojave from factory is an inch higher in front and suspension is better , any Gladiator can do more then most other vehicles off road….Jack

Enjoy the Mojave an awesome truck , had mine since 2021 and still love it!

Rubicons have a higher tow rating but payload will be roughly the same with equivalent options. I'm going off what I see on door stickers, not 'factory specs'.

I say try it out before you form any opinions based on what you have read or what each model was "built to do". If you aren't actually rock crawling, more like trail riding with some larger rocks or rock beds along the way, your Mojave will be great at it. There is a lot articulation even with the sway bar connected. The 4Lo in the Rubicon is, in my opinion, overkill for almost everything but rock crawling (or going really slow). The only thing you might miss, depending on what situations you get into, is the front locker. I wouldn't worry about that, either. Take it to your favorite spot(s) and give it a try.

When I talk with new JT owners that have a Rubi, most of them wish they had got the Mojave instead.

35x11.5 C’s will soften the smaller stuff.

it’s not a trophy truck, and you’ll have a lot of fun just going up to 10-15mph more than you normally would. Mild jumps are a lot of fun.

to really enjoy it, start asking what it won’t do, and then go see. You’ll be surprised what you can do, even in stock form.

Adding sway bar disconnects is easy. I think the metalcloak ones I run were only $100. You'll be surprised how good the mojave is even in the rocks. The stock shocks are amazing in the desert at speed, but work well rock crawling too.

RE: sway bar disc

If you're lazy as f*** and want to spend 4x as much.... the Apex Autolynx are fantastic. 15 seconds to unlock and 20 seconds to lock. This includes getting in and out of the truck.

20 seconds, in and out of the truck, put sun screen on, then watching your buddies crawling under their trucks! Apex got real expensive since I bought mine, but no regrets......Jack

I used to use a dewalt to pull the links off, then big rubber twisty ties to hold them up. One of the main reasons why I went with Apex was so that I didn’t have to fight getting them back connected if the ground wasn’t perfectly flat. Now I disconnect/reconnect more frequently b/c it’s so easy to do, and it dramatically softens the ride while on trail.
