First trip to Ocracoke!. Okay, technically this was last weekend, but too busy to post. Got to test out my new theory of bougie surf fishing where you stay out of the sun with the awning, have refrigerated food, a toilet, shower, power, etc. I still got sunburned all to hell. Also got to test out my cooler/rod carrying beach cart from https://plattinumproducts.com/. If you’re looking for a USA small business made rod holder, these are excellent, albeit expensive. I’m planning on making this trip a regular thing since I’m pretty close in HR. You get huge swaths of beach to yourself down here because of the 4x4 requirement and most of the hardcore fishermen are back at the Hatteras point.

p.s. didn’t catch sh&* but fed the ?’s pretty well.

I like have this work area with access to the fridge, a surface to prepare food, a separate cutting board for bait and a water source with sprayer for washing stuff off.

2 100w panels have no problem charging the GZ to 100% while running the fridge and charging the boombox. I kept my air inflation stuff deployed the whole weekend and just thrown up on top of the truck. I didn’t see other people lowering their air pressure. But then, I didn’t see any place to fill tires and I did see people getting stuck. I refuse to be that guy so I ran 10-15 psi, but I’m sure I could have gotten away with full pressure with 37s.

The extra ~700lbs in the bed made the already soft overland suspension float over the road, it was kinda nice.

Any one else haul long items tailgate up? I've always loaded this way, saves me from worring about skewering those people that tailgate loaded vehicles. The red flag seems to attract more stupid than it warns away.

You could try it on the halfway up setting, I've done that for some things.

Otherwise sometimes I try to angle it just a little sideways. Not enough it sticks out past the side of the truck, but enough that it makes it less likely for someone behind to hit it directly if they missed the red flags (literally haha).

Although I guess that would only apply for narrower items, so disregard if you're talking 4x8 sheets and stuff like that, now that I see that in your picture

I hauled 6 six gallon buckets of small landscape gravel from garden center to my house.
Nasty shrub/bush that I shared with neighbor jerked it out of ground and did not tear up the buried sprinkler line that was tangled in the root mass! Four low very slowly while my wife looked for the sprinkler line. Fun!

I'm iffy on the strength of the half way up setting. The little plastic clips just don't seem as strong as the metal latches. That could be flawed logic though.

I do the angling with the tailgate up some times. My hope is that it looks goofy and attracts someone's attention in addition to the points you made. I'd rater have someone think I'm foolish but see both me and my load.

I believe someone on here posted metal, maybe aluminum replacements for those plastic pieces.
Maybe someone else will have more info.

Unfortunately I got an offer from a dealer and Carvana for this beauty. Cutting down from 2 cars to 1 and going with a Tesla while the tax credit is available. Hard to justify keeping it. Had it 3 years and only have 13,000 miles on it. Hardly ever leaves the garage. Sad day because I love this Jeep.
