My unpopular opinions are in no particular order

CJs were the last “real” Jeeps. Real jeeps died with the metal dashboard. YJ and TJ get honorable mention.

Angry eyes are stupid

Naming your vehicle is ok, plastering it down the side of the hood, not so much, nobody thinks your name is clever but you.

Stock gladiators with the exception of the Rubicon and Mojave look ridiculous.

Snorkels on jeeps are pants on head retarded 99.875% of the time.

Those heavy ass steel bumpers on your stock Jeep with stock all season radials looks stupid. Bonus points if they’re junky cheap bumpers that are all rusty.

Mall crawlers are ok. If I wanted to beat the snot out of something off-road again I’d buy an aluminum car hauler to tow behind my square body and build a 4 link, coil over, stretched YJ on tons and 42’s and be money ahead.

The Sun rider freedom panel replacement thing is stupid. It takes about 2 minutes to remove and stow the freedom panels. Are people really that lazy. Plus it looks dumb as shit just sitting up there when it’s open

37’s and 5.13’s are perfect for a daily driver.

1) pentastar v6 was/is the best engine choice for this truck.

2) max tow on a sport S is just as capable as the Rubicon if you have skill and 35s without wasting all the extra cash

The max tow isn't necessarily cheaper than a Rubicon. It can be, but it doesn't have to be. I've said this over and over. Pick the trim you want and whatever one you pick is fine. Couldn't care less. I've been on trails with some awesome max tows, Rubicons, Mojaves, Willys's and Sports. But a sport S Max with no options, is now 46255. A Rubicon with no options is between 50705 (manual) or 52705 (auto). For that 4500-6500, you get a lot of stuff (beyond just the obvious lockers and swaybar disconnect, and off-road plus). Whether it's worth it or not depends on what you're looking for.

And everyone always says you can't really find a Rubicon with no options, but you can. I did. I don't have a whole lot of options, but it's still comfortably equipped even in base form, because base Rubicon comes with a few standard items that are optional on others. Mine is a '21, so it was a bit less back then (well under 50k). Even if you can't find one on the lot, you can have it custom ordered.

I don't care what trim anyone buys. I think they're all cool. My first jeep was a TJ with no air conditioning. But it irks my nerves whenever this comes up. Buy the Jeep you want, and be happy, without disparaging all the other trims. Max Tow is great. But Rubi doesn't = waste of money. And I'm sure in many cases, it overlaps significantly. Once you add a bunch of options to any trim, it can and will get expensive. You can have as much or as little expense in these things as you want.

Pretty much this. Even over the course of a 6 model year run in the 1980's, they only sold tad under 27K of them.

Jeep Wranglers really did not become mainstream market until they went 4 doors. Talk is cheap and half the people that say they want a 2dr Gladiator now, would not pony up the cash if they actually did bring it to market. They would complain it is a overpriced 2dr truck.
I agree, but am perhaps biased. Currently, have a regular cab short bed full sized for truck duties, but it is not worth it. Looking to consolidate from a daily driver and farm beater to a single workable everyday truck. Not being a single bachelor greatly nullifies the fantasy that one does not ‘need’ a crew cab truck.

Some days it is too damn hot to have the roof off.

Yup, I have had it off down to 20°F, on the highway.
(I know that is still summer temps for some of you guys.)

If you've added any decals to your Jeep after it left the factory, congratulations you've just made your nice vehicle look like shit. BONUS: If you added a Spartan helmet, etc. , you should be banned from owning a JT.
To yeah his own. Besides, who died and made you the JT sheriff?

Quit acting like a Karen there Karen. ;)

That is why it is a "Unpopular Opinion" thread, everybody eventually gets a personal poke at.

Until recently, my unpopular opinion was that the removable roof panels were a bit of a waste, and I could never see the point behind taking them off. But now that I've actually tried it, I get it. And I brought the family along and they kind of liked it too. Front only. Have to open a back window to reduce buffeting, and my kid doesn't like it at high speed, but it's still kind of fun.

people who actually use their Jeep off-road in any way a Subaru can't handle is probably no more than 10%.
I'm always disheartened to see car tire tracks everywhere I go off-road.

Anyone who says they want a 2-door Gladiator has likely never sat in a Scrambler. 75% of people today wouldn’t even fit in one, much less be comfortable. 2D JT would have to be extended cab.
I like the look but not the lack of leg room, so right. A problem with my MJ is that. And have rode in a few CJ-8s. :like:
First time I got in a JK I was thinking WTF wider but less room, my buddy's Rubicon unlimited. I wasn't as old or fat then even...
Well everyone needs their ox gored once in while. ?

It's actually not and MTs haven't been more efficient than automatics in a long time. The use of selective lockup made that whole thing a thing of the past. At full lockup the AT is going to win because the deeper OD.

How would selective lockup be MORE efficient than a clutch that by definition is locked up?

The higher OD may actually be a detriment as the auto is constantly hopping between 6,7.8.

Then there are the pump, clutches and bands all contributing a bit of drag in the auto compared to a MT.

The 8spd auto is a excellent tranny but its not magic.

I told Mediacom - the one and only internet provider in Polk County unless you count DSL which is also not possible here - that I'd pay part of their plant buildout to our area.
They said it would be a minimum of $40,000 and they had absolutely zero plans of coming this direction in the foreseeable future. They said there wasn't enough business out here. Yeah, right - I drive 3 miles and see a 40 acre multi-million dollar mansion with a guest house on the property, I go half a mile to the north and see a dozen homes that put ours to shame, a new huge Victorian style home on several acres, there's a whole lot of people out here who could easily pay their price.
The problem is it's not enough money. Profit but not enough.
It's pretty sad when one company has it all with no competition.
I even spoke face-to-face with the governor - oh, she gave her speech on how she's pushing for money for getting broadband to all of Iowa and has this plan and that plan - not a bit of it has happened. Microsoft - talked to them at the state fair a few years ago. They gave a bit talk on how they are partnering with companies to get wireless broadband to all of us. I signed up for their regular newsletter and updates and for a while checked their site on the project - nothing, no news. It died (apparently not enough money in it)
Some sort of national internet system that ensures even the most remote areas have gig connectivity would sure payoff.

The return on investment in this area would be incalculable as there are so many great rural areas that would flourish with affordable fiber connectivity.
